Off You Go, Elizabeth

001

I got Elizabeth off to the quilters finally.  I swear it took me two weeks to buckle down and get the borders on this quilt!  I put it on my bed and pretended it was all quilted and ready to snuggle under.

Thank you Wendy of Quilting and Life for giving me this wonderful idea.

I picked up my Samurai Squares quilt from my favorite quilter, and as usual, she did a great job.

This is going to be a graduation gift for one of my nieces, and I sure hope she will like it.  I am tempted to keep it for myself, I like it so much!  I like the narrow black containment border, then the raspberry border, then the polka dot border.  It seems so chic to me for some reason.  Maybe it is the Tour d'Eifel fabric, I dunno.  Here is a close up of the quilting.

On a separate note, I have to share something that Allyson of Fat Cat Quilts told me.  Remember how I said I tried to buy 5 yards of Patisserie fabric from Sarah's Fabrics in Lawrence, Kansas, but the website lied–they only had 2 1/4 yards?  Well guess what?  It has been 12 days since my purchase and all the uproar in regard to me trying to get a refund (they charged my card for the full 5 yards).  And THEY ARE STILL ADVERTISING THAT THEY HAVE 5 YARDS of that fabric!!!!!!!!!!!  And I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn't falsely advertise.

  1. Love Elizabeth! She looks beautiful on your bed. And the quilt and quilting on Samurai Squares is wonderful.
I just had an issue with an online shop too, only they didn’t charge, just emailed that they didn’t have ANY of the the three yards indicated on their site. Frustrating after the time it takes, right?

  5. I am in love with your Elizabeth and I would want to keep Samurai Squares also.
That is one reason I hate to try a new online store. You don’t know whether to trust what they show or not.

  7. I just don’t know how you do it – you turn out such gorgeous quilts in such a short time frame – I’ve been working on the same table runner for months now. Oh well I can at least enjoy other people’s work and dream of some day completing my first full sized quilt – I’ve got the pattern and fabric but am determined not to start until the runner is finished.

  9. Both quilts look great. I really love the Samarai Squares. I’ve been wanting to make something in that color scheme, but never seem to get around to it.

  11. Elizabeth is really beautiful. Sorry about your online purchase issue. I don’t buy much online. My few purchases from Connecting Threads have been hassle free.

  13. Nicole, Elizabeth turned out Fabulous! I’m dreaming of starting mine… I have so much work! I have been working 12 hour days and then I try to squeeze in some family time. I miss my creativity. While I find my mojo I will live vicariously through your gorgeous creations!

  19. Both are so striking in their own way. Your niece should be absolutely thrilled with Samurai Squares. I hope you get to see her face when she opens it 🙂
Websites apparently are not updated often at small shops! I guess that is a lesson to all of us that a phone call must be made to verify–obliterating the time savings of online ordering!

  21. The quilts are beautiful. Will you please remind me who does the Elizabeth pattern? I’ve looked for it and haven’t found it – I have a granddaughter named Elizabeth, and I think she needs that quilt. (I found the Schnibbles Madeline for my granddaughter Madeleine…)

  23. Your quilt is just beautiful as all your work Nicole! I have to say I felt bad reading about Sarah’s quilt shop. I visit their lovely shop when ever I go to Lawrence, which is often as my son attends KU there. We always have lunch and then he his happy to let me satisfy my fabric addiction after 🙂

  25. Wow! Can’t wait to see Elizabeth quilted. It looks so soft and cozy in your bedroom. What a great pattern – I’d always wished I had made one. Guess it will go on the list!

  39. Hi Nicole, I’m Karen from Omaha, NE and I just wanted to let you know that this weekend Carrie Nelson was in Gretna, NE with the Quilted Moose quilt shop. For show and tell, she showed your quilts of Short Line. They are gorgeous! The quilting on the Happy Campers Short Line is out of this world. I’m so jealous. We had so much fun today sewing and sharing. I do love reading your blog and seeing all your beautiful quilts. You have a very good eye for picking fabrics and pulling everything together. Thanks for showing and sharing your ideas, you are an inspiration. Thank You, Karen M

  43. It is quite unfortunate that this situation with Sarah’s Fabrics played out the way it did, but I think there are a few things you should be aware of, and that your readers should be aware of. I am a family member of the owner of Sarah’s Fabrics and a quilter myself. I was on vacation with her at a cabin in a remote area of Idaho, so any online orders were being handled by her staff while she was out of town. Though the emails were sent from the main store’s email address, you were not communicating with the owner until she later became aware of the situation. There was some mishandling of the order because the employee that deals with online orders, and with whom you had been communicating, had a sudden death in the family and then left town. Once Sarah learned of the problem with the order, she was able to use internet services in order to deal with it (and I believe they did in fact credit your account back?). As a small business it is difficult to constantly update yardage changes on the web when so much fabric is cut and sold in the store, but Sarah’s Fabrics keeps the site up to date as much as possible and in no way attempts to “falsely advertise” yardages. I’m sure Sarah is quite disappointed that your order had problems with it, but she cares deeply about customer service and always tries to ensure that her customers are satisfied and happy quilters.
