My Contribution to Spring Quilt Market

001

My friend Lisa at Stashmaster has posted a picture of a quilt she completed for Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie fame to present at Quilt Market, so I guess that gives me permission to post photos of mine!  Months ago we both were invited to do some stunt sewing for Carrie on a couple of new patterns she planned to release at Market.  Whenever Carrie asks me to sew for her, I am over the moon about it.  You all know I am her biggest fan (besides Lisa!).  In addition, she is the most generous, funny, and organized woman on the planet!

The pattern I was assigned to make is called Short Line and has both a jelly roll and a honey bun version.

I was thrilled that my fabric for the jelly roll version was Rouenneries by French General for Moda.  One of my all time favorite collections!  My photos are a bit fuzzy, but with luck, you can see the gorgeous quilting Debbie Thornton of Prairie Queens did for me.

I love this quilt!  In fact, I was so inspired by the glorious fabrics, I am making two more quilts out of it!

The second quilt, shown below, is the honey bun version.  The fabric is Happy Camper by American Jane for Moda.  Isn't this quilt cheery?  I think it would be perfect in a child's room.  Don't you love the contrast of the zig zags against the white background fabric?

I did not have time to get this quilt quilted, unfortunately.  I plum ran out of time and had to send the top off as is.  The quilt block units were all strip pieced, so that went pretty fast.  But let me just say, there were a lot of blocks!

I really like the use of the piano key pieced border.  I have found that when I do a pieced border, it tends to lay nice and flat.  Maybe because we measure more often and with more care when we are doing a pieced border instead of a whole fabric border?

The photo below was taken by some of the Fatquartershop gals while they were at Market.  Look!  There are my two quilts in the corner of Miss Rosie's booth!!!!!!  I am beyond proud.

  3. Pretty, pretty, pretty!! What I really love is the rick rack quilt just appearing to be pieced with half square triangles, but really just strip pieced. Great job.

  5. Oh my goodness Nicole, that is the most exciting thing ever! I love both the quilts, they’re going on the ‘must make’ list. You made them up just beautifully, and what a compliment to you that you were asked in the first place.

  11. I love the look of these quilts. I need to get busy and finish a couple I want to use on my bed! You always inspire me and I can’t wait to get a few things simplified in my life so I can spend a bit more time sewing. Will this pattern be available sometime soon?

  19. I love all the quilts you did! Can you tell me how many Honey bun rolls it took you to complete that one. I’ve been collecting a few and want to make sure I have enough to do this pattern once it comes out. Thank you!
