I Hadn’t Planned On All the Dust

Cough, cough, ack, ack.   My goodness, these men are creating a lot of dust!  Take two men with jack hammer like tools and let them at my tile master bathroom floor, and the air is swirling with dust.  Woo.  Hope the worst of it is over.  Today they lay the new tile.

In other news, we took Ozzie to the dog groomer this weekend.  He had gotten so shaggy, he was hardly recognizable.

He wouldn't look at the camera for the picture, as he was busy trying to plan his escape.  You see, he does not like to go to the dog groomer's.  Hates it in fact.  You think your dog doesn't like going to the groomer's either?  Well, Ozzie makes such a fuss, the groomer has to call my husband to come back in and help hold him down.  Honest to Pete, I have never even heard of such a thing.

We may be asked to find a new groomer after this latest episode.  Ozzie was a complete wretch and my husband wasn't too pleased at having to interrupt his work to go sit on him while he had his hair cut.  Needless to say, the groomer wasn't too thrilled either.  Ozzie just gets into an hysterical mind set and thrashes around as if he is about to be killed.  There is no reasoning with him.  I wonder if having someone with a mobile grooming service come out to the house would be any different?  Or finding a groomer who is a big burly guy who won't take any of Ozzies' guff?

There is no after photo.  No sense in showing a picture of a dog who has been shaved bald.

Oh, ok.  Here he is.  Bad dog.  He is sitting so he hides his under belly, where things got trimmed a little close.  How embarrassing, and wearing a hat isn't an option.  Pants?

I didn't get much sewing done Monday while the work men were in the house.  I am in the midst of making flying geese units for Madeline, and hope to make better progress today.

  1. He sure is darn cute though! We’ve been using a mobile one for about 5 years now and it’s great…they don’t have to stay at the groomer’s anymore…We had to switch groomers because Howie was so bad for the gal that used to come…we now have a guy, George the Groomer and he’s wonderful. He talks very softly to him but is very firm with him…no more nonsense from my Howie. It’s amazing how the can react so differently with different people.

  3. Aahhh, poor Ozzie! I would certainly try a mobile groomer – might do the trick! That, or a valium. He does looks snazzy though! Can’t wait to see more of that Madeline!

  5. My sweet pooch has to go for grooming every three weeks and hates it. I give him a tranquilizer about an hour before we leave. That makes it much easier on him and the groomer and then he comes home for a nice nap after.

  7. I swear our cat groomer is a cat whisperer. I can’t figure out how else they can lasso our cat to take care of him. Some people just have a gift. Maybe ask your vet for a recommendation for a new groomer.

  9. My sister’s dog, Katie, hates anyone in a jacket (the vet, salesmen, the groomer, etc.) and has bitten a couple of the groomers (not to mention the vets). So now it is either a tranquilizer or a muzzle to go to the professional groomer.
My sister has found that bribery, however, seems to work. She has started to do the grooming & as long as there are cookies when things start to get tense Katie calms down.
Be careful with the mobile groomers. . . there have been some bad outcomes here on the east coast with the drying crates getting too hot for the dogs.

  11. My Beagle would turn into frenzied psychopath every time we tried to trim her nails. We started setting a bowl of dried food in front of her while we were working on her and now, while she still doesn’t like it, she sits cooperates.

  13. I have had a mobile groomer for my Giant Schnauzer for the last 6 years. We met her at her yard sale and brought Hunter over to meet her. He loves “his Becky” and she never has any trouble with him. Previously I had been clipping him as I had to accompany him to the groomers and stay with him the whole time. And be the one that gave him his bath. figured I might as well just do it myself–but he never looked good.
I think Hunter might have the same typr of personality as Ozzie so I would definitely try a mobile groomer. Becky takes just over an hour to do Hunter and there is no cage/crate involved.
Perhaps you can get some recommendations.
Oh, Becky now does several of my friends dogs and they all love her too. She is so soft spoken–oh, Hunter greets her at the door all excited to see her and than when he realizes he’s going to get a haircut, kinda goes the other way. It’s pretty cute. After the haircut, she walks him into the house and he is so excited to show off his new ‘do.

  15. Poor Ozzie. what things we have to go through for beauty treatments. The Dog Whisperer has an episode about dogs and groomers. Cesar started out as a groomer. It was pretty good. Maybe have Ozzie watch it 🙂

  17. Poor Ozzie…maybe he’ll have a better relationship with a new groomer when you move. Just play dumb when the new groomer calls saying Ozzie has his freak on and say, “he’s never acted like that before.” in your most convincing shocked voice.
I’m not sure who I prefer, scruffy Ozzie or handsome Ozzie, he’s a cutie either way.
