Where’d It All Go?

Here is my poor living room, almost empty.  We are preparing to have the floors redone and had to move all the furniture out.  My gosh, that room is as big as a barn without any furniture.  So where's the furniture?

Why stacked up in the garage, naturally.  See those boxes in the foreground?  They are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the boxes of china I packed up on Saturday.  I had to empty the buffet and china cabinet before they could be moved, you see.  Gracious, I have a lot of dishes.  Now why didn't we look for a butler's pantry feature in our new house?

And just when you think you have thought of everything, you realize that you forgot to move the elephant in the room.

  1. Oh, a butler’s pantry, definitely on my dream house wish list. I too have a weakness for dishes.
Your house looks amazing from the angles of these pictures, all the recessed walls and open ceilings…Wow, I would buy this house if I lived in your neck of the woods, it’s amazing!
I hope Ahren was home to help this weekend.
Do the dogs love the open space, I can just picture their little legs slipping and sliding all over these floors.

  3. lol!  Your picture of the dogs skidding all over the slippery floors is right on!
Yes, luckily Ahren came to help.  I would much rather spend 10 hours packing dishes than three hours moving furniture.

  5. Well, look at it this way, you’re ahead of the game as far as packing goes for when the house sells. Sounds like you had a productive weekend. Glad you had some additional help.

  7. Oh, what a big job you guys did! Your floors already look great in the photos–it must be somewhere else in the house that needs the refinishing. We’re planning to get new carpet put in this year and I dread the furniture moving, however temporary!

  9. Wow – pictures are deceiving…the floors look great already! We had this done at the Squash House…prepare yourself for sanding dust everywhere – even if they do tape off the other rooms! Great job packing and stacking, Nicole! Are you going to keep it all packed until you move?
    Cheers!

  11. Nicole, you made me do it, and that’s my story! While you were busy moving and packing, I went to my LQS and bought what I could find in the Rouenneries and Rural Jardin fabrics to create my very own super sized “Madeline”. Now, you’re just going to have to post updates as you sew so that I can copy (almost) right down to the last stitch! (just kidding, kind of)
I agree with the others here about your beautiful floors – the pics make it look wonderful. Good luck with everything.

  13. I don’t envy you this part! All for the new adventure though. It will be worth it 🙂

  15. I have to empty my china cabinet to sell my dining room furniture and get the new stuff. I’ve been in the basement emptying bins of camo hunting clothes and putting them in plastic bags for charity truck to pick up friday. I’m going to use the large plastic bins to empty the china cabinet and pack up my sewing room. (Nobody would ever believe how many hunting clothes and equipment Vann had. More than I have sewing equipment and fabric–and that’s a lot!

  17. Hi Nicole, just finished with the floors and halfway through with painting. Yes, do be prepared dust – the guys who did our floors said to count on at least a month before everything clears – I am sure that the stock of Proctor and Gamble has increased because of my Swifter purchases LOL. Your floors do look lovely in the photo though but if you think that redoing them will help to sell the house then I guess it’s the thing to do.
I’m tired of packing, cleaning, unpacking – this is just as bad as moving – I’d much rather be QUILTING!!!

  19. Wow, can you ever get a lot done whether working or quilting. I am impressed. Your home is so pretty.

  21. We are getting ready to add hardwood to the kitchen and refinish the dining room. I also have to empty china closet and another cabinet full of dishes. We have to move the stove and fridge to the living room. That should be fun-not. I was hoping the dust wouldn’t be too bad since they have a bag on the machine they use. But from what I’ve read it sounds like I’m in for a mess. I guess the sewing is on the back burner for now.
Have you found a new house yet? I hope it has a big sewing room.

  23. Hi Nicole,
You have a beautiful home. I hope just the right people come along to purchase it from you! Might be kind of hard for you to sell after you get it all prettied up.
We have an elephant almost identical to yours!! My husband put it together from a kit in 1981. It was so funny looking at your picture and seeing our clock looking back at me. 🙂
    Have a great week,
