New Fabric–Rural Jardin

This week I want to show you some new fabric that has come into my life recently.  The group pictured above is Rural Jardin, the new collection by French General for Moda.  A generous benefactress, who pays me in fabric, sent it to me last week!  Does it get any better than this?  Will Work For Fabric.  No problem.

Look at that stack of wovens–so high it is leaning over!   One great feature of this collection is the number of light backgrounds.  This gives one so many wonderful block options.  I am basket block obsessed at the moment, so I can envision baskets of blues, taupe and reds on the various lights.  Vive la France!  Seriously, forget about the 4th of July, I need to do a Bastille Day quilt!!!!  (Don't you love being a part of my stream of consciousness?  I definitely do not plan these posts ahead, they just sort of evolve as I chat with you).

I adore this collection of fabric.  I could spread them all out and lay on them.  Oh.  That's what I get to do when I finish making my quilt, isn't it?

The collection is very compatible with French General's previous group, Rouenneries.  Same reds and pinks.  However, the addition of the blues takes things to a new level.  I could totally redecorate my house around those two fabric groups.  You could have quilts in every room of the house made from them and they would look different, but flow perfectly from room to room.  I guess I need to get started with my sewing.  But first:

Be still my heart.  Is that not the best toile you have ever seen in your life?  I swear, I am ordering five yards of this for the backing of whatever quilt I end up making!  I would love your suggestions as to great pattern ideas!!! Please do share!  I find that people read my blog not so much for what I have to say, but for all the comments I get from you Friends!

  3. I’ve been playing with that fabric line and have nearly finished a quilt top.
    I used two charm packs plus some extra bits and pieces… the cutting of the three charm pieces of toile fabric were a little unfortunate (see my blog for why!!)
    But the colours are so gorgeous..just love them. I look forward to seeing what you make from them.

  7. Brand New Day would be fantastic- the fabric at the top of the layer cake would look wonderful in the alternate diamonds! On another note- I got so inspired by your giveaway that when the FQS announced a sale on Blessings I bought 4 honeybuns and I AM going to make that log cabin!

  13. LOVE the toile! I collect toile yardage, but I can’t find any site selling pieces larger than a fat quarter. Guess I should order some FQs before the entire line is sold out!

  15. I won some of this line from Kelly at Charming Chatter and am using it to make the Jelly roll Sampler. I love the reds and blues!

  19. Aahhhh, it is so beautiful. I will have to admire it from afar as my collection that I preordered in March is on BACKORDER from Hancocks. How can it be on backorder – it just came out ?!?! Sigh…I’ll just drool over your photos.

  21. I really love that main fabric and the reds and blues are just so wonderful… my only issue with the line is the same reason you love it. So many lights. I find that there are just more lights than med/darks. Finding some design that won’t need a contrast in value is difficult so I’m curious to see what you are going to do with it. I think I will want some pieces in this line but I can’t see myself buying a bundle. I have the same problem with most of Fig Tree lines. I love love love their individual pieces but the line as a whole always has sooo many lights. Am I just not creative enough? Enjoy your treat!

  25. Love these fabrics…in fact everything French General, I heart…but you’re right…it’s hard to decide what to do with them. My Rouenneries bundle is still untouched…I’m sure I’ll combine it with Rural Jardin…but what…I’ll be back to read the suggestions!

  27. I love your fabrics! How neat to work for fabric! I envy you that job! :-)) I have a thing for red/white toile. I’ve made a few quilts and have used it for backings and pillow cases. Maybe a simpler pattern to show off your great prints~ a star, churn dash etc. Have fun!

  31. Oh my gosh, I just bought the FQ bundle of this and lots of yardage. I love this fabric! I am going to make the Miss Rosie pattern Stella Blue with it, I think you’ve already made that quilt… but I haven’t yet and I keep wanting too, I think these fabrics will look great with that pattern. I am sure you’ll find a great pattern for them. Have fun!

  33. I broke down and bought the above collection…..only ……I bought two packs of the squares to hand applique the pattern Romance in Bloom by Verna Mosquera. Looking at the toile I have decided that will be my backing and the scalloped border. Thank you………

  37. I just bought some charm packs of this fabric. I didn’t want to buy lots of yardage without having a plan. I can do a disappearing nine patch and then get some yardage for the border and back (toile for sure).
    Bunny Hill has a great basket pattern called Market Morning that is fat quarter friendly. You might try that one.

  49. I like the Brand New Day pattern you have picked out and am anxious to see the results with this fabric line. Planning the project is half the fun.

  53. Mine came in today’s mail, I’m not even a “blue person” but I love this family of fabrics. I’m hoping whatever Camille is working on with this family is something like. I’m going with a lady of the lakes for Rouenneries, I guess i could throw in some Rural Jardin.

  55. Those bigger prints and the luscious colors do inspire fondling. That pattern you picked out has those large alternate squares that would show off the bigger print so nicely. I’m sure that’s why you chose it. Have fun!

  57. WOW you are lucky i love all the blues I like the others to but I have A thing about the colour Blue.Did you see my latest opp shop find It;s on my blog.And it’s all hand made.

  59. I made my Rouenneries quilt with a pattern from 40 Fabulous Quick Cut Quilts called Fall Frolic. It uses 4.5 in squares framed by 2.5 in strips. I did not want to cut up the fabric too much so this was perfect. I added a large floral border to it. I will be showing it tonight at Pinnacles Quilt guild meeting if you feel like coming to San Juan Bautista tonight.
