We Interrupt Our Usual Scheduled Programming

002

OMG, I have to make a switcheroo.  On a dime.  This is the sort of thing that makes life interesting.

My niece is graduating from high school this June and I wanted to give her a quilt.  I had a nice pastel one in mind that was already pieced and just waiting for quilting.

Then, I come to find out from her mom and sister that she isn't a pastel sort of girl.  At. All.  She likes ~~brights~~

Thank goodness, I have just the thing on stand-by nearly ready to go!  Awhile ago, I started this fun top called Samurai Squares in white, black and a great neon pink.  I have almost all the blocks done and just have to sew the rows together and slap the borders on.  A bit of a scramble, but what the heck, she's worth it.

With any kind of luck, I can get this done over the weekend.  I know I am supposed to finish Beach Cottage before I do one single thing, but I think this is an exception that is reasonable, don't you?

The only problem is, I'm not sure I want to let this one go….  Did that ever happen to you?  You have a quilt all finished and ready to give away, but you like it to much to say "Bye bye"?  That wouldn't be nice, would it?

But hey, look what I picked up recently:

I might just be able to get my ~~brights~~ fix after all!

  1. Hi Nicole,
I thought you went through a “bright fix” with the quilt for Rosie – which is dynamite (also looks real bright in the photo). I don’t make many “gift” quilts due to expense (I have to pay for my quilting to be done for me too.) However, I try to start “gift quilts” with the maxim that they are not mine from the start so they never get to feel mine, but solely for those for whom they are made. That said, your substitute will be grand and you wiill always have the grace of being the “Samairitan” on the original bright. Enjoy working on them both for different reasons. The first will be a lovely wedding gift.

  3. Nicole, I love the way you live life…I’m guessing your husband says, “I just hang on for the ride!”. You’ve helped to start my day off with a smile.

  5. Two wonderful quilts! I love the b/w and accent color quilts! It will be hard to give either away but the smile on your niece’s face will be so worth it. Happy stitchin’!

  7. I can’t wait to see the finished quilt – WOW! Maybe I can catch up with you on the Beach Cottage during your break – ha ha! I have 45 blocks done so far. I’d like to get them all done by this weekend! And, yes, I sometimes don’t want to give certain quilts away when they’re finished. I love it when I can go visit them though o:)

  11. Way to be flexible! Of course, you could always whip up that yellow one and give that to her instead, if you are too attached to the other. After all, what is life without a few quilting challenges?

  13. I have had that happen to me before with a couple of quilts that I just couldn’t give up in the end, I seem to get emotionally attached to every one that I make.

  15. One of my quilts that I gave to my oldest is one of my favorites..I was ok with giving it away because she lives with me…now she wants to take it when she moves 🙂
I love both quilts, esp the yellow which I think is one of my favorite colours.
Now Nicole as a longarmer I have to say no slapping on the borders!!!! 🙂

Cool blocks and I’m sure she will love this quilt!
    Good luck with the deadline!
Now here’s the thing….I LOVE LOVE LOVE that yellow and black & white fabric! I saw something similar at a store this week and had to use all my self control to not buy it! And the pattern you picked is perfect! You are not a good influence! LOL

  21. Oh WOW, I love that yellow and black combo. I think it looks perfect for anyone, but I’m guessing your niece will love it!
I wish I had the knack for picking projects that you have!
I think you’re allowed a Beach Cottage dispensation for family emergencies!

  23. I have struggled several times with having to give up a quilt I have planned to give away. They always go but I struggle anyway. I think that frequently the quilt I am currently working on is my favorite so I have learned that the next one will probably become the favorite and I will be all right.
