Snowball Challenge Met!

002

My Red and White Snowball quilt is finished!  This was such a fun challenge, from start to finish.  What made it the best experience was having all you quilting friends sew along with Allyson, Thelma and me!  This quilt is a real winner and will be a current favorite of mine.   Kudos to Allyson for getting us going on working together and organizing the scrap exchange.

I added an inner containment border of black and an outer border in a red print that had light and dark shades of red, which coordinated with the variety of red scraps I used.  My outer border looks a tad wavy to me darn it, but with luck it will quilt out.

Wouldn't this be a great look for a red and white bedroom?  You could have a couple of red quilts that all went with one another, some white ironstone candle sticks, a vase of red flowers…..Hmmm, I may have to redecorate again!

  1. I love your snowball quilt top. I also like the way that you used the black in a small outside border. It really sets off the reds.

  3. I’m so kicking myself this morning, I knew I was going to add a Santa border so I didn’t even consider making the border blocks for my Red and White Snowball Challenge..UGH..What a difference it makes! Those small blocks add so much!
Great job, and Congratulations on finishing this quilt.

  9. Gorgeous! You added such a nice touch with the inner and outer borders. This is such a classic, timeless quilt! I don’t know how you do it working full-time+ but the results of your work are simply amazing! I’m still putting blocks together! I think I’m shooting for a V-Day finish. 🙂

  11. Gorgeous! I love this, and the idea of decorating with the white ironstone and red & white roses. I have my red & white quilt in my bedroom and I love it!

  13. Gorgeous! I need to get cracking on mine — being sick for 3 weeks really set me back. I’m using a border also, but I’m also making mine queen size — 169 blocks PLUS the partial ones!

  15. It’s just beautiful! Congratulations. Yes, the waviness will quilt out. I have to constantly remind myself that fabric is organic and as such, moves. It’s not paper or rock that doesn’t move. The quilting will put everything where it belongs!

  21. Oh Nicole this quilt is a real stunner. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT. One of my favorites for sure. I’m sorry to have missed all that’s occurred. I briefly read Miss Sophie went on Safari. Damn friend. Over here I have a seriously ill cat so I’m whacked out but I don’t know… somehow finally feeling like I can rest until the serious test on Monday for the cat. This was one of my first stops when I sat down and I’m so happy I did. I’m reminded again why I love quilting. You’re the best!

  23. I was pretty sure I wanted borders but then I kind wasn’t sure but after seeing yours I am positive I’m putting borders on. Love your border fabric. If I can ask, how wide are your 2 borders? I think they are in perfect proportion.

  25. Love it. I got the book that this pattern is in, last week.
I plan on making this quilt this year. I have started gathering my reds together. You used all ranges of red, right ? From brighter red to cranberry ?
I do like a few other quilts in this book also.
    Again, you are an inspiration.
    Have a great weekend.

  29. Nicole,
Now THAT is a beautiful quilt! I will definitely have to make one. Oh, how my beagles would love to get up there and snuggle into that one! Have Ozzie and Sophie given it a test drive yet?
