Snowball Blocks: Done!

012

I haven't had much time at the sewing machine this week, due to my dental emergency.  I had broken a crown (my back left lower molar) and had an appointment on Wednesday to drive up to Palo Alto to see my dentist, Dr. Wong.  He said the crown had to be removed and a new one put on.

Removing a crown involves *sawing it in half* and breaking off the pieces.  I cannot do justice to the description of what I went through.  It took five injections of Novocaine (or whatever they use now) and three hours of sawing, chipping and tugging to get that thing out of my mouth.  I have never suffered through a more terrible dental ordeal.  Dr. Wong is wonderful, and I knew I was in great hands– I just wanted it to be OVER.  (Speaking of hands, his are very tiny, which is a good thing in both a dentist and a gynecologist.   I'm just saying.)

Ok, I seem to be getting off topic.  The topic being that I finished all the blocks for the Red and White Snowball Challenge!  This Saturday my plan is to get going on making the rows.  Hope to have something to show you on Monday!

While I was stitching away on the blocks, I was in the mood for some lively music.  I had Les Triplettes de Belleville on my mind and went in search of that CD.  I gave up on storing CDs in their plastic cases years ago, and now keep my CDs in binders with plastic CD sleeves.  The problem with that is, some albums don't have the name clearly legible on the CD itself.  I found what I thought was Les Triplettes de Belleville and put it in the machine.

Good grief.  What I had chosen sounded like Hava Nagila sung by a mariachi band.  In a good way.  But not what I was looking for.  I searched in a box I had stashed away and found the album cover.  Late Night Betty by Pepe and the Bottle Blonds.  Am I cutting edge or what?

I searched a bit more and came up with what I was looking for!  Alors!

Have a lively weekend Friends!

  1. I enjoy reading your hunt for tunes. I enjoy as I go through something similar although not nearly as cute and I’m often fickle so one can imagine. Just considering what the dental situation must have been like. It’s very hard to imagine that. Ugh. But I can imagine how it feels to get the Snowballs this far! There’s a story in these, that’s for certain. Welcome to Friday. Oh yes, welcome to Friday for sure.

  3. I feel your pain or, blocked pain, with the dentist. I too have had some major time in the dentist chair. NOT. FUN.
You are cutting edge! Love the music story lol.
    Your blocks look great!
    Enjoy the weekend!

  5. Yay!!! It’s great to see the challenge coming together. I’m still working on my snow, not balls yet!
That’s my plan for today – snowballs.
    Happy Friday!
P.S. glad to hear the tooth is back to whole again.

  7. Nicole, you just can’t cut a break! My dentist has been urging me to get a crown on my last molar and last time I was in to see him I told him that if it REALLY needed a crown it was god’s way of telling me that I needed to get rid of it! LOL! I love that between your cold and your dental ordeal you still made progress on your project. I have a schnibble asking to get quilted and i just stare at it and move away. I think I need a new project to get inspired. 🙂

  11. Ouch! You poor thing. My mouth is small and when I have dental work done they have to use a block to keep it propped open. Otheriwse my jaw goes into spasms. Very painful. One of my crowns had come out and I put it back and then went in to get it repaired. They couldn’t pop it back out so they used hard sticky candy. “Bite down and then open.” Popped it right out and the one next to it! At least you finished your blocks. I can’t wait to see the finished product.

  13. As the owner of 11 crowns with 5 more arriving next month, I relate. Sounds like you have a good dentist, though. Your blocks are looking great, you have a nice mix of creams, it must have been a good swap. I’m still plugging away on my red/white christmas star….

  23. My top is finally done …. will show it on next post …… doesn’t it feel good to have all the blocks done and ready to start putting them into rows?
This past year, I just stopped eating anything hard …. you guessed it, too many broken teeth and too many crowns in my mouth. Glad to know that they can do something when a crown gets broken. But still, that is a long time in the chair.

  25. Geez, what in the world did you try to eat that cracked a crown? Slow down, girl! Sorry your dental emergency turned into a long term chair torture session.
By the way, I like it when you get off topic–we always go somewhere fun!
Love the snowball blocks. This is gonna be a great looking quilt.
