I Feel Sniffy

Tap, tap, tap….Is this thing on?  Ahem!

"I feel sniffy, oh so sniffy

I feel sniffy and stuffy and tight

And I pity the girl who feels like me tonight"

(Think Natalie Wood in West Side Story, only older, fatter and sicker, with tissues stuffed up her sleeves).

005

Since I have been staying home this week (it was my plan, I just hadn't figured on getting a cold), I have been spending some quality time with my Bernina.  Time for a Red and White Snowball Challenge Update!

I completed all my red units, which you see in the photo above.

007

Ta Da!  I successfully turned the red units into 50 red blocks!

Then I started in on the light units.

008

Finished those too, but ran out of steam and didn't get them made into blocks.  The idea of all that pressing just tuckered me out.  Tomorrow is another day!

So how are you all doing?  I know some of you have left me in the dust and have your projects quilted and bound already, but there must be some of you who, like me, got a bit derailed by the holidays.  If you have something to share regarding your Red and White progress, leave me a comment with a link to your blog so others can click on it and go see what you have been up to!

  1. I guess I’d better come clean – I am woefully behind! Now that I have the holidays behind me (and I can oh so empathize with yours…at our house there was sinus infections and more…not the most cheerful of seasons but it will be memorable) and the busiest year end at work almost complete, I’m coming up on having 3.5 days off to quilt, quilt, quilt. I’m making enough black eyed peas and cornbread to eat for days so I can hunker down and do nothing but sew! No blog to link to yet but that’s another goal for 2010. I’ve loved seeing everyone’s progress though and the quilts are stunning! You’ve all given me a good shot in the arm.
P.S. – Try the Neti Pot (available at Walgreens). I swear it worked! It almost killed me at first and was hysterical to watch but I did feel better!

  3. My reds are in a heap on my sewing table and my creams are waiting to be cut, waylaid by Christmas, and two other tops that are in line before the snowball challenge. I am hoping to get my creams cut out over the next few weeks so that I can get started on the blocks before the end of January! You’re making great progress — these are really going to be some pretty quilts!

  5. I have a tale of two halfs. I got the first 6 rows sewn together on the 27th and it is shown here http://sunshinestitchin.blogspot.com/ I got the last 5 rows sewn together last night and would have completed it, but I had to take one seam out since it looked like I was trying to make a ruffle. Not sure what happened as the next seam was just fine. I plan to finish that last seam tonight.
Hope you get to feeling better.

  7. Nicole: Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. My cold/sinus infection is worse and I feel about as good as you do. Something is definitly going around. I have a project I need to start, finish, quilt and bind in a month! Wish me luck. I can’t wait to see your finished red snowball quilt. I wish I would have joined in.

  9. Well Nicole, you’re farther along than me so I hope that makes you feel better. I have all my hst’s made and I’m working on the other parts. I may be ready to put blocks together soon. I’ll try and post an update today. I refuse to leave the house-it’s about 8 degrees today!

  13. My top is finished…before Christmas so I could at least hang that. Got waylaid by sickness and busyness. I don’t have a link but I emailed a pic to Allyson. Your blocks are beautiful. But I don’t think anyone could make an ugly red/cream block. It is so pretty finished.

  15. Feel better Nicole,
I feel like I have got derailed all fall- not much quilting at all – tried to manage my time and my energy well but could have used it more productively I am sure.
Ah well, soon it is a new Year! I think I will make a list of quilts that I want to get made and try to stick with it.
Hope that your are soon back to your normal feeling self- you always make such beautiful pieces and such interesting projects.
Have a great New Year. All the best in 2010.
    Warmest regards,
    Anna

  19. Sorry Nicole, just saw this post! Hope you’re feeling better. We have company in town, so not much sewing going on. Tomorrow (Friday), I’ll post about my red and white snowball challenge on my blog. I’m done with the red snowball blocks and am working on the white ones now. Love it, love it!
