Prairie Paisley DAL (Done At Last)

IMG_3320

Technically this quilt top is DONE.  However, I do plan to add a floral border at some point.  I have the fabric, and could do it any time.  However, I am going to put this quilt away for now.  I don't know why it felt like such an albatross to me, but it did.  Maybe because it is the sort of thing that normally I could whip out in no time.  Presently, time is something I seem to be short on, so the quilt sat unfinished for many many long weeks.  It whined, and that is such an unattractive quality in a quilt.

I am not a huge red white and blue fan, but this combination of light and dark blues with a touch of red is rather pleasing, I have to say.  Can't you just see this quilt draped over the back of a white wicker love seat on the front porch of some adorable little bungalow?  Next to a pot of red geraniums?

What's next?  Hmmm.  I think I will get back to work on Sweet Escape, (a Miss Rosie's Quilt Company pattern).  I am using a wonderfully whimsical fabric group called Neptune by Tula Pink for Moda.  Think inky indigo blue, coral, and aqua.  Such a different color palette.   After that, I am leaning towards Birdseye (anther Miss Rosie pattern) using a fabulous collection of rust and brown and sagey green Civil War fabrics I have picked up here and there.

Don't forget my Spanx giveaway on Friday!  You still have time to comment on last Friday's post "My Old Eyes".

  1. It’s beautiful. Doesn’t even need the floral border, but if you have the fabric and you want the quilt to be bigger. I like the small blocks on point in your border.

  5. Can I just say:
    * I have a little bungalow. At the lake.
    * I have white wicker furniture. At the
    lake.
    * I have red geranium flowers ON a
white wicker table. At the lake.
    * I DON’T have a really gorgeous,
    beautiful, yummy, perfect-colored
    quilt (hmmmm, like Prairie Paisley).
    At the lake.
If you ever felt “the need” to dispose of said quilt? Just let me know. I’ve got the perfect spot!!
Great Job~ it truly is beautiful!!

  7. Oh my gosh! I didn’t know that’s what it meant when my quilts where whining?? Who would have known? My kit for this in the closet glaring at me right now and I do have a white wicker chair on my screened porch. Thanks for the idea! Bird’s Eye is on my list too. Nancy in WI

  11. Congrats on staying with this top. I agree it needs a border and I hope you don’t put it away for too long. Borders are a couple of hours but they represent “finished” in the piecing process. It’s beauftiful and would be an excellent choice for Memorial day decorating.

  13. Nicole, This quilt turned out beautiful as of course we all knew it would. Just one other comment on putting it away when it needs just one last border that would take maybe 45 minutes or an hour to finish. Just think…if you put the final border on, this albatros would TRULY be out of your hair. Just some food for thought.

  17. Love the quilt. Like you, I don’t seem to get much sewing in these days. Just back from Maine and I did no sewing there. I have been so busy with my DIL and 2 grandsons that I haven’t done anything related to fabric in weeks. But what wonderful times I have had with Carter, the 2yo and Jackson, the newborn. I am spending the day with them all tomorrow to help Momma out again. And then one more week of vacation before back to work. Where did my summer go!

  21. I never bought any of this fabric line and don’t know why. I have loved it from the start. Some quilts just want to ferment for a while before getting finished! You will get it all done one of these days soon and be glad of it. I very much like what you made with the fabric.
