Lucky me, I had two half days off this weekend, and managed to finish the cutting of the Prairie Paisley fabric for the challenge Lisa and I are doing this month. She posted a picture of this same exact amount of progress on May 27, but I think she has been out-sewing me and has more done by now.
Don't you love the way the navy and light blues are combined? This fabric group, by Minick and Simpson for Moda, has a ton of lights in the group. Do you find that when you are making a scrappy quilt, sometimes the biggest obstacle is coming up with enough light fabrics to work in your project? No problem with this collection!
I have moved on to the third border of this medallion style quilt top, which involves cute little four patches. Lisa made the comment to me in an email that the pattern instructions were kind of strange, for it calls for us to trim the four patches just a smidge to get the right size. The trimmings were just the teensiest little shavings, but it did result in perfect little four patches.
Have any of you made medallion style quilts? I would love to see pictures of any that you have done. I have finished a couple of medallion style quilts and have a couple others still in progress. I just think they are so much fun to make. The quilt takes shape before your eyes, as you add border after border to the center section.
This was part of a Blended Challenge I took part in. The pattern was from one of the Blended Quilts books by In The Beginning. As you see, it is actually quilted and on my bed.
This one is called Six Degrees, another Miss Rosie pattern. This quilt now lives in Tokyo with Shige and Tomoko Yamamoto. Pretty spectacular quilting on this baby. Fabulous pattern too. I should make this one again and keep it for myself! The assembly of this top was interesting. The block sections were attached diagonally around the center medallion in four big triangle units.
This one obviously is still in process, and not very far along at all. I am using Allspice Tapestry fabric by Fig Tree for Moda, and the pattern is from an American Patchwork and Quilting magazine. I really need to get this one done. I got tired of making stars I guess, and put it away.
Now, it is a crying shame that I put this project aside, because I am crazy about it. I am using the Wuthering Heights fabric by 3 Sisters for Moda and the pattern is Summerwinds by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.
So, here is my personal challenge to myself: I vow I will finish these THREE medallion style quilts before the end of August. Prairie Paisley, Allspice Tapestry and Wuthering Heights.
I tend to be a multiple personality when it comes to my quilting. I have so many different projects going on at once. I love them all, and embrace each one of them while I have them out and am working on them. Then, for whatever reason, they get put back into their boxes and remain hidden away until I am compelled to take them out again. Just call me Eve and up my meds.

Nicole, all of these quilts are really beautiful and the Prairie Paisley is moving right along. I have to tell you though, and I believe I you showed us the Wuthering Heights once before, I absolutely adore this quilt. Miss Rosies Summerwind pattern is really wonderful. Gonna have to get that one very soon. I think I have a collection of fabrics that ‘might’ work with it. If not, then I’ll just have to put it on hold for a bit. Thanks for sharing the great pitures

I’m a Multiple, too, N. I have to have four or five things in progress at one time. Which leads to chaos. What about a group challenge to finish a number of projects by Labor Day? Wouldn’t that be fun? Or would it be stressful . . . . Hmmmm

Beautiful quilts. I think we all do the same thing. I tend to work on one, and then put it aside. I really need to work on my UFO’s but there are so many new pretty patterns and fabrics calling to me 🙂

Those are all lovely, but I’m crazy about the Six Degrees one….I think you should definitely make another to keep. AFTER you’ve finished everything else, of course! I think we all tend to get side-tracked on to a new quilt…especially when we’re constantly buying new fabric that needs to be doing something. I have no doubt that you will finish each and every one…beautifully!

I’m into many projects at one time, too. Definitely, make another quilt for you. Best wishes to you on reaching your goal by August. You can do it!

Thanks for the smile!
I know exactly what you mean about having multiple quilt projects on the go!
All of the quilts are lovely but I particularly like the Wuthering Heights one!

I’m so envious of all of these, Nicole! One of these days I’ll get to work on my Prairie Paisely! Here is a great link for a medallion quilt a blogger from my area is doing: http://bloominworkshop.wordpress.com/2009/05/04/medallion-quilt-along-border-12/
Cheers!

I love medallion quilts and have made two lonestar quilts as well as a log cabin star quilt. I also have made another quilt that has a star medallion that is set on point.
I really like the over all look of those quilts.
I much prefer an overall quilt pattern than a block by block looking quilt.
I am sure you will meet your goal- you do make beautiful quilts.
Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Anna

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pattern and fabric for the last one…it is a true beauty! You’ll feel so good once you finish them and just think, then you can start 3 more!
