Several friends have remarked on the recent posts with photos of Sophie, and wondered how her brother Ozzie is doing. He is doing just fine. Same ol', same ol'. I had thought perhaps he had given up his wild ways and penchant for chewing things up. I had hoped that he had now settled down into young doggie adult hood and was ready to act like a good citizen. I suppose you can see where this is going.
I came home from work Monday afternoon and climbed over the puppy gate into the family room and kitchen. You know how you just have a feeling that something is not right? That some small object or detail has been changed? Hey, weren't there TWO Pottery Barn wintery bark candles on the coffee table?
Gasp. What the…..?
"Who did that? Did YOU do that? What bad dog ate my candle and made this big mess??!!"
Ozzie's response was to slink off into his dog crate, which I took to be an admission of guilt. Sophie just sat and wagged her tail, as if to say "I TOLD you that was a bad idea bro". Maybe she is an excellent actress, but I believe Ozzie was indeed the culprit.
After I let him out of jail I showed him the mess again and tried to reason with him.
Oh, I think he is sorry and all that. But does he "get" it? I don't think so. Darn. I really liked that candle.

Poor Ozzie…I’m sorry Nicole, it really isn’t funny but the look on Ozzie’s face is like “I just wanted to redecorate a bit but I can see you don’t like it”. We used to have a Scottie/Poodle mix that chewed up, no, she shreaded my hardcover books every time we left her home alone in the evenings or on weekends. She never ever did it when we were at work, it was like she knew she couldn’t go there with us so that was okay. But if we left her here during our ‘off’ hours, I’d lose books. We kept moving them higher and higher because she had the little short Scottie legs and barrel body. There was nothing for her to climb on and she sure couldn’t jump that high. We never solved that mystery either, but when I finally got smart and put my hardcover books away, foolishly thinking that since she had never touched a paperback, she wouldn’t bother them…silly me, she could go through several paperbacks in a very short time. When I put those away, she moved on to magazines. This sounds really dumb but we even tried leaving old magazines and junk mail catalogs on the floor for her (I was willing to clean up the mess, she kept it in a nice neat little pile) but she was very selective about her reading and would not touch those. Go figure. She died when she was 14 yrs old and destroyed her last book just the day before. I know that isn’t very encouraging but I also had dogs that just suddenly stopped chewing things up at about 18 months or 2 yrs old. The vet said that was when they became true adults. We’ve not had any problems since we’ve had two dogs because they keep each other company, well, that’s not true, my house has been toilet papered upstairs and down a few times but only when they were puppies and the toilet paper roll was bigger than they were, LOL. Anyway, when Ozzie gets out of the “dog house” give him a little pat for me. His little face is just so expressive and cute that I can’t resist. I am sorry about the candle though. Do you ever wonder how he chooses his ‘victim of the day’? Hmmmmm…..

Love your basket header. I’m doing a basket of the month for quilt guild so it seems I notice baskets everywhere. The only problem I’m having with that is when you really start looking at the patterns so many of them are nearly alike. Oh well, next month they will get applique and boy will that get them going. A lot of them don’t like the “A” word.lol

How can you be mad at a face like that? He is just so cute. Brodie is 6 1/2 and still gets into stuff so there is probably no hope for Ozzie. 😉

Ah well….boys will be boys. The look on his face is too precious. All your photos of the pups are so cute, and your stories so humorous, I think I’d like to get a couple dogs myself. But alas, allergies prevent me. I know I am missing out on a lot of love.

I still think that somehow Ozzie and Maggie are related! You just gotta love em.

I am sooo pleased my dogs are not the only ones who do things they shouldn’t! I have 2 labradors. The older, now 9, ate several mobile phones & tv remotes. The younger, almost 2, eats anything! I often come home to find the fruit bowl empty – she eats most fruit (& veg when left out) but just plays with the oranges. She steals dishcloths & tea towels & takes them to her bed. Anything goes for her!!!

Giggle, giggle! SOOOOO funny! I know, BAD doggie! I guess you will have to put him somewhere while you are at work where he can’t chew a thing, maybe in a crate. MAYBE, eventually, he will get the idea. My Schnauzer never chews a thing because we stopped that from the get go, but my daughter’s cocker spaniel just got done chewing up my brand new re-upholstered sofa pillow!!! Ugh, dogs are great, but drives ya crazy half the time.

I’m sure Ozzie is feeling very remorseful about all of this. He has such a penitant face. He really did want to be a good doggie, he really did. I’m so sure of it.

Oh my goodness Nichole! Can I ever relate. One evening we went out, puppy safely in the doggie crate. We returned and to my horror the pup had chewed the cord to my BERNINA in half!!!! Thankfully it was not plugged in, BUT the culprit had somehow gotten out of the crate (humm.. someone did not set the latch) and was having a party while we were gone! Thankfully my oldest ds came home in the midst of the spree……
Ozzie’s look is so reminicent of our Airedale – “Who ME??”
Thanks for sharing a peek in the life of Ozzie.

Hmmm in Ozzie’s defense, did you check to see who had candle breath? Or bark in their teeth? I think Ozzie needs representation…
