I have not posted on Ozzie and Sophie lately, mainly because they are too shaggy and unkept looking to be seen in public, but today I couldn't resist. Here they are on the bed in my sewing room, bugging me while I try to sew. Sophie is on the left and Ozzie is on the right. They stare at me, grab little bits of fabric and run off, reach over and push at me with their paws, and generally pester me to stop sewing and pay attention to them.
If I ignore them long enough, they give up on me and play a little game on their own, which has turned out to be a real favorite. It is their own doggie version of Cops and Robbers or Cowboys and Indians. I call it Rat and Terrier.
Sophie, the smaller of the two, gets to be Rat. She crawls under the bed, where Ozzie doesn't completely fit, and just sticks her paw out a teensy bit. This drives Ozzie completely mad. He is Terrier of course, and goes totally bonkers in his efforts to roust out Rat.
Here Sophie is, starting the Tease. After a bit, she draws her paws back under the bed and just pokes her nose through the dust ruffle, just enough so Ozzie can see where she is. He lunges and barks, and growls and generally acts like a maniac.
At some point in the game, he can't stand it any more and tries to squeeze under the bed to get her.
You have never heard such carryings on. I wish I had a video camera to record their antics. Finally Ozzie works himself up into such a frenzy that I have to stop the game before it gets out of hand.
One of these days he is going to get stuck under there, and then what am I going to do?

Ha ha ha…that really is very funny. My cat and dog do a play game…only the dog wants to chase the cat and the cat jumps on the couch just out of reach. Ding ding dog…she won’t jump up after the cat even though she jumps up on the couch to be near us. PS your digital camera should have a video function. maybe?

Oh, my goodness! I wish I could be there to see the antics! What cuties. We had a real mouse in our house the other night. After much squealing and screaming (by Me) I ran and got our little ratter, Maggie the Terrier! “Go get the mouse, Maggie!” She did not even catch the scent. She just ran around gleefully thinking I was playing. So much for putting her to work….

My little boston terrier “Annie” wants to play with us constantly. While I am sewing she noses her ball under my stool and machine and then sits back about 5′ and very, very patiently waits for the moment that I might kick it out to her. She does this over and over. What would our lives be without their entertainment? Thank you so much for sharing!

Very fun…the photos capture it so nicely. Our two Tibbies engage in various antics like this also. Endearing…it’s what captivates us about our pets, right?

Nicole,
I love the story of Ozzie and Sophie- what a pair they are – We have a dog and a cat that are learning how to be compatiable with one another. They are middle aged pets so it is more complicated as they are both used to being the queen bees. We have had the cat Mars for a long time (10 years) and she was used to other dog who was much larger than our current dog. However Dusty the dog may not be large but she is feisty and thinks she is the boss. We got her in the summer time when a friend needed a home for her as he was moving across the country. We had to put down our other dog Venus in the early spring due to a sudden gastric illness. We are now 6 months into the process and the pets are learning to live with one another. I doubt they will ever be great buddies but it is better than it was . Pets are sure great entertainers and keep life interesting.
Loved your apple crisp quilt- I have Evelyn Sloppy’s book- there are some very nice patterns in her book.
Happy quilting ,
Regards,
Anna
