Hello Friends. Thank you for all your good wishes to me on the occasion of my first week at my new job. And also, thank you for your patience with my lack of blogging. I am getting into my new routine, and will carve out niches for both quilting and blogging on a regular basis.
Starting a new job has to be one of the most painful experiences there is. I feel slow and dull witted and completely lacking in confidence. My boss was standing over my shoulder today asking me to do some simple thing on a spreadsheet and I could not remember the most basic commands. Talk about embarrassing. Every single thing takes three times longer than it should to accomplish. Hopefully, she isn't completely regretting her decision to hire me! She gave me a spreadsheet to sort today, which sounded totally easy, but it turns out if there are formulas in the spreadsheet it can mess about with the sorting features. Who knew? Not me that is for sure. Every day finds me feeling that I am wending my way through a dark tunnel where at the end all things will be revealed.
Enough on that subject. I am home now and my time is my own! My son is coming home for the weekend, and I am helping my favorite cousin with a fashion show tomorrow. Sunday will be spent organizing. When you work, you have to plan ahead. Clothes, meals, blogging—anything that is outside of work time must be scheduled in diligently or it won't happen! Even hair washing. My days are going to be Sunday and Thursday. See what I mean?
Good news on the Ozzie front. He has not gotten into any mischief during the day while alone, and seems to be adjusting pretty well to my absence. Except for the hissy fit he throws every morning when he realizes I am getting ready to leave for work!
Hope you all have a great weekend. If you have a minute, go on over and visit Karen at Leehaven. She is having a difficult time right now.

Hello Nicole,
everything will be ok in the next week. You must be self confident and not worry about what your your boss may think. It is always difficult start working after a break. No one is perfect at once!! Be sure that everything will be good. And it won´t last long and you will write us that everything in your job is super ok!! And if you make mistakes? Be sure others make them too, although they work there for years without a break. Nobody is PERFECT!
Have a great weekend and all the best to lovely Ozzie!!

I went back to work after a 10 year absence and had a 21 year old peering over my shoulder and correcting me! It was the hardest thing I have ever done, but I did survive and it got exponentially easier every day. Good for you!

when I got a job a couple of years ago I had the same experience and had to be taught by someone who was my sons age. I felt so dumb, slow, and out of place I went home and cried the first few days. Confidence will come and you’ll be as good at the job as you are in other wonderful ways. Miss you’re sewing updates but can’t wait to see what’s next. Glad that darling boy is behaving. Don’t forget to breathe.

Yeah, but can your boss make a quilt as well as you can? Can she get all those tiny little points to match up perfectly, or make a perfect checkerboard border? (Please say No!) I didn’t think so!
Please tell us that you haven’t forgotten what the rest of us know about you — that you are an extraordinary woman and you can do extraordinary things. There isn’t anything you do well that you learned how to do in a couple of days! Your boss is lucky to have you and it won’t be long before she realizes that too. Besides, she hired you so she already knows you can do this job!
Now what about Harmony? Enquiring minds want to know what is up with that! Ozzie needs someone to get into some trouble with… er, I mean, to spend time with. 🙂
I will look forward to the upcoming post where you talk about how much you’re loving your new job — and how much your boss appreciates your great work! It’s coming… I know it is.

You get in the swing of your new routine in no time! And Excel is like riding a bicycle – it will all come back to you.

Having anyone hanging over your shoulder as you try to work out how to do things can be unnerving and unproductive! I know that in my case I’d be making more mistakes because of the presence of someone watching over my shoulder.
You’ll get the hang of it and do just fine!
Glad Ozzie is making the transition to being home alone.

You will be up to full speed in no time at the job. Its always difficult – new people, new schedule, new boss – a lot to get comfy with. So give yourself some time and relax, you can do it, we have confidence in you!

You felt stupid for a very good reason. I read a study once that showed that for the first two weeks or so of a new job, your IQ really drops about 20 points. It comes back up again, eventually. So not only do you feel stupid, you ARE. :o) Not just you, everybody on a new job. I’m not sure if that will make you feel better or not. It is meant to. I’m sure they will be wowed by you very soon!

I know just what you mean! I recently began a new job as well, and trying to get comfortable in the job (new work, new place, new people) as well as juggle everything else you do outside of work is rather stressful! You will settle in and be wonderful both at work and at home! Big hugs on your new adventure!
