Mess, Mess, Who’s Got the Bigget Mess Tag

My friend Karen at Living Life at Leehaven recently posted a picture of her messy cutting table and played a game to see if she could spy 15 things on its cluttered surface.  I thought it was such a cute, fun idea and asked her if I could steal her concept and start a tag game.  Let’s see who has the messiest table.  If I think it is you, I will send you a prize.  Post your photo on your blog and let’s have a vote!

So, here you see my work space, which is a total joke, since you can easily see there is absolutely no room to do anything at all, since there is no clear space to speak of.  Can I spy 15 things?  Oh, no problem.

1)  Basket of left over scraps and a roll of something called buckram. 

2)  Tape measure

3)  Open book–Blended II

4)  Calculator

5)  Parts of blended blocks I may or may not use

6)  Scraps of background fabrics for blended blocks

7)  Background, green, tan and black fabric I  am auditioning for more blended blocks

8)  Chalk marker

9)  Scissors

10)  Cutting ruler

11)  Precision Trimmer

12)  Pin holder

13)  Iron and ironing mat

14)  Parts of blended block I will definitely use

15)  Diet Coke

There is a lot more under there, but I think 15 is more than enough to mention.

I consider myself a very organized person, as evidenced by the smidgen of the tool grid you see above my cutting table.  Thread is all arranged by color, rulers hung by size and type, rotary cutters lined up, and a few inspiration patterns on a hook.  But the cutting table work space just gets away from me in my creative moments.

  3. Does it count if I purposely place items on my cutting table to simulate mess? Mine isn’t TOO bad, because I can’t work if it is, but I did think of a few amusing things that are currently on my work table that have absolutely NOTHING to do with sewing. I will take a picture this weekend to share.

  5. Not fair! This morning, my table was a mess, as was the ironing board sitting beside the table. I had to clean it up RIGHT BEFORE I read your blog! Bummer, I probably would have won! LOL

  7. Your mess is kid stuff. I’ll work on a photo in the next couple of days. Its too dark in my sewing room right now. I’ll try to whittle it down to 15 things.

  17. You have to be kidding! I will try to get one this weekend. Right now it is fairly straight because I was putting one thing away and getting ready for another, so it is “in between”, so to speak. However, just for you I will take a picture tomorrow. If I can post one from a month ago, I will win for sure, lol.

  35. No matter how hard I try to clean up as I go when working on a project – it NEVER works. My table is always a mess. Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone in that boat.

  43. It doesn’t look too bad to me, Nicole. I especially love the organization on the wall – I need to get one of those, too! Thank you for the great idea! I try not to think of it as “messy”, but “creativity” – it has a much nicer ring to it, don’t you think?
    I’m hoping for a photo of Ozzie one of these days, too – I miss not seeing him!

  49. I looked at my cutting table and it has only a mat on it. i have spent so much time cleaning that I cleared the clutter off of this surface.
