Thanks to all of you for your uplifting and encouraging comments to my post yesterday. I really appreciate everything you all suggested. I have been kind of bored and at loose ends lately, but am definitely going to "snap out of it", as Mary Englebreit likes to say. It is amazing how many of you have felt exactly the same way! What a wonderful community blogging has introduced me to. I am so grateful to know all of you! I have gone from having just a couple of good friends to having dozens!!!
Isn’t it strange how suddenly having time to do exactly as one wishes is such a difficult thing to adjust to when you have always led a busy life? How odd that one can’t be happy with whatever stage of life one is in at the moment! If I am really busy, I crave peace and solitude. Give me solitude, and I crave activity! I must be patient with myself and learn to love the life I am living.
One thing I have been doing is a lot of reading. I have always been a good multi-tasker, so I have several books that I am reading right now. (Weird, but I have always been able to read several books at one time). Eat, Pray, Love is a great book about a woman who decides to take a year off and spend four months each in Italy, India, and Indonesia. Fascinating. The other book I am enjoying is The Saffron Kitchen, a gripping story of an Iranian mother and her complicated relationship with her English/Iranian daughter. I am also zipping through Cesar’s Way, a remarkable story of a Mexican immigrant who is a natural wiz at dog training.
My son took the bed that was in my sewing room off to his new apartment in Santa Margarita, so now I have room for a reading nook. Here is a picture of where I have been spending a lot of time lately.
And here is where I have not been spending a single minute:
I have some good plans for the weekend, with my husband, which I am looking forward to. We will drive up to Granite Bay to visit my sister and her husband, then spend Friday in the Lake Tahoe area. Saturday is set aside for fun and socializing. Plus, you just never know what surprises there might be along the way….

Nichole, Thanks for visiting my blog the other day and leaving such kind comments! I have put a couple of your current books on my list of books I want to read. I often find myself reading more then one book at a time too. It’s not bad to take a break from quilting every once in a while. Just think of it as giving your creative juices a time to rejuvenate!

When you start your day, try not to fret about what you will do. Just take the day as it comes. If you spend the day reading, so be it. You’ll visit with your sewing machine again soon – it’s just not in your cards right now. Don’t beat yourself up – it’s really OK!

You know, I was just at Barnes and Noble today and was *this close* to picking up that copy of Eat, Pray, Love. Looked like an interesting book.
Hope you’re having a good week!
God bless 🙂

Sounds like you have some fun planned! I’m feeling at loose ends myself but I’m just going to go with it. Something will present itself to me I know!

I LOVE CESAR MILLAN! He has a show on National Geographic Channel that was part of my routine when I was in a similar situation as you described in your last post. I moved to a new state in July and until 3 weeks ago, I didn’t have a job. I found all that free time really hard too, but a routine really helped me. There were certain things I did the same every day (like do the dishes when the Dog Whisperer was on) and then there were blocks of time that were open for a different project each day. I tried planning a few days in advance for those blocks. Good luck! You’ll figure it out.

Have yourself a great time, Nicole. Rest, relax, and regroup. I pray that you have a safe and wonderful trip.
We love Cesar too, watch him on National Geographic Channel all the time. He’s amazing, what he can do with trouble or troublesome dogs.

Enjoy your weekend with hubby and when you come back you will feel refreshed. So get in that sewing room and get busy being creative again. That right there will make you feel a whole lot better.

There’s a time for sewing, a time for reading, even a time for (ahem) watching television. I know this from experience, because when I broke my ankle I suddenly had so much leisure time I hardly knew what to do with it! I too am the type who gets more things done when she’s already too busy.

Sounds like you are reading some interesting books right now.
I found the hardest time I had was when my youngest son finally took all of his things out of his bedroom to his own apartment. Even though it meant I was going to have his room as a sewing room I was so sad to know that he would never be in the room again and the room – which was so full of him, his guitars and amps and cds, and his poetry, pictures, were off the walls and would never be there again. I took tons of pictures. And I was just “out of sorts” for weeks, nothing specific. Sometimes it is hard to know exactly what makes us feel melancholy. Sounds like a little road trip will be a great thing to do. Have fun!!

Your new reading space looks great. I seldom read these days, but when I do it’s only book at a time. Enjoy your weekend. It sounds like you will have a fun and relaxing time.

Sometimes you need to reload the batteries again. And doing all those lovely things is maybe just what you need! Have a very nice weekend!

Ceasar’s Way…I didn’t know there was a book about about him! I love Ceasar Milan…we just recently got a pug and every day up until we got him I watched The Dog Whisperer to prepare for what would of course, in my mind, would be the best trained doggy ever! Hahaha – he’s not quite the best trained in reality, I’m sure Ceasar would have a heart attack if he knew some of what my pup has gotten away with, but his tips definitely helped. Lol* I will have to get his book, I’d love to read how it all began for him. 🙂

Hoping you have a wonderful weekend–enjoy yourselves! I was sorry to see you previous post that you are feeling at loose ends…Be kind to yourself, just be, a new path will present itself when you are ready. In the meantime, take joy in who and all you love. Happy Days ((HUGS))

I feeling similar to how you are feeling. My youngest daughter did not come home after her summer job. I’m suppose to be going back to work but not looking forward to the same stressful place that has taken it’s toll on my health. The days are too long being home alone so I’m thinking a part-time job is the best for me.
