Jump, and the Parachute Will Open

Img_0521

This is kinda the way I have been feeling lately.  I need to take the plunge, but can’t quite seem to do it.  Maybe I need a teensy push?

Things are awfully quiet around my house.  I am not working anymore; my husband just started a new job, our son moved away to grad school; our daughter is recently married and has a very busy life; and my beloved dog Jeeves died.  Oh, I suppose I could sew or read or work in the garden or start an exercise regime.  But I don’t.

It is hard to find a new path after years and years of doing the same thing.  I spend a lot of time thinking about what I want to do, but don’t seem do take much action.  Not that the thing I used to do was all that thrilling, it is just hard to figure out something new and different and rewarding.  I can’t be too old to start a new venture.  If only I knew what it was….

I’m working on it though!  I’ll let you know when it reveals itself to me.

  1. Maybe you want to consider a walking regimn, considering Saturday is approaching, andthat you may have a little one who needs attention…
    Once January hits and you have CAbi, you will feel more busy. In the mean time relax, and rest, we have our late October Houston trip! Then Thanksgiving and then CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!
    What day shall we decorate??

  3. Sometimes it takes a while to find a new groove. You’re so talented, Nicole. I know it will all work out and you’ll have so much more time to create. Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of your sweet doggie.

  5. Unless it’s just out of the question, maybe a trip to your local quilt shop might spark some interest. It never fails to stir me up. Another thing is to watch a movie that inspires me…for a few hours I’m able to forget about what’s happening and sometimes the drama or whatever impacts my feelings. I’m not pushing, just thinking aloud, and I have realized that sometimes just choosing to make a move is all the push I need, and it sure took me a long time to learn about choosing feelings. I hope this is helpful. Take care…sent with hugs…

  7. How well I remember times like this in my life. When we are used to being on the go and accomplishing so much I think it’s really hard to adjust when a period like this comes along. If you are like me you have a hard time relaxing and doing nothing. Finally I’m starting to realize that times like have a purpose too. We can use the time to sit quietly, truly observe the world, sort out our choices and investigate paths we can take. For some reason we feel we should be able to choose quickly and then get back to work. Allow yourself the luxury of not having to choose right away – of having this time to feel out what is right. The world – and your life – is unfolding as it should. When the right thing comes along you will know it. Until then, cherish the quietude.

  9. Oh my — um, I kind of know exactly how you feel. The best I’ve been able to come up with is to hang in — try to get some sewing done, and, well, breath. {{hugs}}

  11. I’ll add this to what Darlene said — be careful what you wish for! You could have too MUCH to do! I can hardly wait until I can quit work and be in your shoes! 😉

  15. Nicole, you will feel better soon. Just give it time. You have had a lot of changes going on in your life and I know from experience when they all hit you at once it’s hard to bounce back, but you will. I promise. Just hang in there and enjoy all of your blogging friends. If we can’t cheer you up then……….. well who can??? LOL!!!

  19. Oh Nicole I know what you speak. I’m struggling with that now – trying to find my way along a new path – and not knowing which turn to take.

  21. I think you have hit on a common thread with a lot of folks here. Those seasons of transition are hard but it seems that you are being intentional about looking for new directions.
