The weather here in the Monterey area has been breathtakingly gorgeous all weekend, so I am afraid I have not gotten in much sewing time. I started a project for Sara, and hope to show pictures of that later this week. My husband and I spent hours in the car Saturday and Sunday, driving down to Big Sur and all over Carmel Valley. It was perfect beach weather and much much too nice to stay inside.
Just wanted you all to see that I have finished a project from start to finish. This is my Six Degrees Quilt, which has been completed just in time to fly to Tokyo and be presented to my daughter Sara’s friends Tomoko and Shige as a wedding present. You don’t get much more authentic American than a quilt, do you? Debbie at Prairiequeen’s did a marvelous job with the machine quilting, which you can see in close up below. The quilt has been renamed Starry Night, which seemed more romantic a name than Six Degrees. It turned out very old-fashioned looking and kind of Victorian (due to the weird color scheme), I think.
Debbie used an all over design in a feather pattern, which I think was the perfect choice for this quilt. When you are lucky enough to find a great machine quilter, my advice is to listen to their suggestions regarding the quilting, as they tend to know their stuff.

I love the quilt and don’t think the colors are weird at all. What a lucky couple to receive such a beautiful present.

Your quilt is beautiful. What a wonderful and thoughtful wedding gift for a Japanese bride. You know quilting is also a big thing in Japan.

You did a beautiful job – I love the colors in it, and I know Sara’s friends will, too. What a lovely wedding gift!
The quilting IS perfect – maybe I should find a great machine quilter, instead of stumbling along trying to quilt my creations myself. Someday, when I grow up, I want to be a great quilter!
By the way, it’s taken me long enough, but I figured out the other day that Sara is your daughter! Do I get an A+? LOL!

An allover design worked perfect for that quilt. It’s beautiful and I’m sure will be treasured for years to come.

I have been searching for a pattern just like the one you made. The nine patch with the floral border. It’s the exact pattern I would love to find. Can you tell me where you got the pattern or was it in a book? I just love your quilt and you did such an excellent job. Thank-you, Jan

Hi Jan. Thanks for your nice words. I wasn’t able to reply to your email, so I hope you check back here for my response.
The pattern “Six Degrees” is by Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company. I believe you can still buy the individual pattern. It is also available in a book, “Miss Rosie’s Quilt Collection” by Carrie Nelson.
Best regards,
Nicole
