I spent five hours on Sunday working on my Raise the Roof quilt blocks, using the In the Pink fabric line. I think this one could be a real winner, provided I can get through the challenges I am experiencing with the star blocks. The quilt top is made up of two different quilt blocks, a traditional log cabin and a star block made up of contrasting lights, mediums and darks. The star blocks are made up of an hour glass (quarter square triangle center), and flying geese made in two color arrangements. There are also some solid squares and half square triangles thrown in to make things interesting. The challenge lies in the lay out of the various lights and darks. As you can see, I have about nine ways I could do this wrong. My spatial acuity is really getting a work out with this block.
I have a lovely stack of 22 easy log cabin blocks completed, and two, yes that’s right, TWO star blocks. It takes me an inordinate amount of time to lay the nine sections of each block out, check each piece for correct positioning, then stitch it together. I am determined not to plow ahead and complete 16 blocks before realizing that I have the flying geese oriented improperly. And my friends, I have 32 of these star blocks to get through. I should finish this quilt top sometime before 2040, I am sure. And for goodness sake, don’t anybody sneeze or slam the door and get all my pieces mixed up!

What a cute quilt that is going to be! I can totally appreciate the potential for having trouble. I get so frustrated when I check and recheck and triple check….and still get something put together the wrong way. It’s even worse when I take it apart, and try again and still get it wrong!

It may be giving you fits, but it’s going to be GORGEOUS when it’s completed! I love that pattern and your fabrics. Keep plugging away on it, I’m sure you’ll finish it in no time!

It’s going to be a beautiful quilt! I’m with you, there are oodles of ways to screw up those star blocks and I’m sure I would find all of them!

Wow these are so pretty! I love the quilt but the layout of those stars looks challenging!

Oh my goodness – what a lovely project! All those gorgeous colors and patterns would make me dizzy trying to piece them all together – I think I would need to go on a vacation from my family to get that one done! Can’t wait to see the finished project! I bet it will be outstanding!

It certainly will be a lovely quilt when finished. I am terrible with spacial issues. I blame it on my left handedness. LOL

It’s going to be a beautiful quilt, I love pinks and browns. Maybe a little more practise will make the blocks easier to do. One can dream.

A great pattern but I like your colors way more than there’s. Take your time and nut it out before you go too far. That is the voice of experience speaking lol.
I have a friend who works it all out with paper and colored pencils before she starts – she is a primary school teacher,, hence the coloring in 🙂
