Long Road Home is off my design wall! All the rows are stitched together and I am so happy to be able to call this a Finish. I really do like the homey look of the fabrics. This will be a great quilt to throw over a chair and to cuddle up under.
I tried to be completely random about the placement of the tan alternate squares. I like the pattern of light tan and dark tan that emerges. I am quite satisfied with this effort.
For now it is joining the other finished quilt tops in the pile of quilts To Be Quilted. I need to focus on finding backings for these and on getting them sent out to quilters!
After all, it isn't a quilt until it's quilted. By my count there are seven flimsies hanging on this quilt rack. That is just a crime. And we won't even look in the cupboard that holds dozens and dozen more.
The quilt project that I have resurrected and is being continued is my Hill Country Basket quilt. Up on the design wall go my blocks again.
The blocks will be separated by a lattice, but it helps me to get them up on the wall so I can be sure to get the color placement that I like. And to discover blocks that I have sewn together in a wonky way.
Seventh row down second block to the right. Hello? Did you fall asleep while sewing that one together?
Laying the blocks out on the design wall also shows me what colors I may be short on. Now I am making more browns and greens. By the time I finish making all these blocks, I will have enough for two quilts. Easy.

Love the look of the Long Road Home. It does have such a homey cuddly feel to it.

Beautiful! I don’t have that many tops, but I do blocks. My theory is that UFOs are ok because in the distant future they will be treasures for another generation. I say this as I sit looking at 2 vintage quilt blocks hanging on my bedroom wall, and I think about the 8 others hanging in my studio inspiring me. Not to mention my clooection of vintage tops.

I love your Long Road Home. I was just sewing a smaller quilt together with tan/cream and was trying to be random about their placement, too. Emphasis on “trying.” Sometimes when I have a pile of flimsies, I will use one (that I’m not as in love with as some of the others) for the backing of another. I’ve had really great luck with this and it helps that pile shrink a little faster.

You make so many lovely quilts it’s hard for me to pick just one favorite, but Long Road Home is definitely way up near the top of my list!
Hill Country Baskets is wonderful, too, with it’s rich colors and glorious array of fabrics!
Would you please share you sewing energy and enthusiasm with me? I’m in the doldrums since life has been so busy and complicated for the last … nearly a year. Sigh!
We see the cardiologist today because AMIL’s chest x-ray done Monday showed congestive heart failure. Dearie me.
Hugs!

Love, love love Long Road Home. Definitely my kind of quilt and the basket blocks are wonderful as well. I look forward to seeing them once they are quilted. I can see how a large design wall really helps with the placement. I think that is next on my list to get. I have very small one now but I think a bigger one is in order. Thanks for the eye candy!

Love your Long Road Home Nicole, and your grit and persistence because it was a long road home. Good inspiration. I have a good sized design wall and with “older” vision, I find I must build my quilts on it as I go. I try for building one-quarter at a time to avoid repeating fabrics, and the light is just plain “best” on the wall, diffused enough and yet defined enough. You have plenty of company in the flimsy department. I make what I enjoy and pay for quilting as I am able. They will probably never be equal. Charge on with Hill Country Baskets, it will be a beauty.

Looking good! Okay, I still can’t find the basket that is not done right. Just look at it with my eyes and will seem perfect.

I bought a kit for Hill Country baskets about 4 years ago. You are inspiring me to dig it out. I love the Long Road Home quilt. The mix of shirting prints is my favorite quilt combo.

I LOVE it! The long road home was well worth it! ;p
Yes, I have 3 or 4 quilts that only need to be quilted to be finished. You are not alone. ;p

Hooray! Long Road home looks beautiful!
Every finished top deserves a little “party”, don’t ya think?
I’m really fond of that Hill Country Baskets.. I’ve stopped my self from buying that pattern a few times now… I don’t need to start another until I finish the others!
Yours looks great, even with the “unique” blocks. Remember it takes all kinds to make the world (or quilt) go round! LOL

A beautiful finish Nicole! And I guess it’s the right week for a resurrection… I remember when you were working on this basket block quilt. It’s just gorgeous.

Long road home is just beautiful and agree, will be just warm and snuggly to be under. Wonderful colors….and baskets are just so cute. Looks like some good progress and I had to really look to see what was wrong. That block could have gotten by real easy for me….hehehe!
