Why, here is a nice roll of freezer paper. Can you imagine what I am going to use it for? Bet you can't!
No, I am not embarking on an applique project, but that is indeed what I originally purchased this roll of freezer paper for. I can't remember where I got this tip, as it has been some time since I read about it, but it was in the post of a fellow blogger. It is such a wonderful idea I have to share it with you all. Let's give a moment of thanks to the blogger who first put the tip out there, whoever you are. Merci beaucoup.
So here is what I am going to do: I am going to use this freezer paper to clean all the little strings and hairs and fabric bits off my design wall! Just how will I do that, you ask?
Pin the freezer paper (just to hold it down) and run your hot iron all over it. Shiny side down. Dull side to the outside where you place the iron. You only need to pin it the first time, after you iron it the paper will lie flat. When you peel back the paper after ironing, all the little thread bits will have stuck to the shiny side of the freezer paper!
How about that???? You can reuse each piece of freezer paper and just reposition it on the new area you are cleaning. I used three good sized pieces for my entire design wall, and repositioned them three or four times until they were so full of threads they weren't working so well any more.
It really works great. Now my design wall looks like it did on its first day, before I got threads stuck all over it. I really do love this.

Thanks so much for this!! I was just thinking yesterday how to do this. A lint roller came to mind, but I think it may have disastrous results with cotton batting. The freezer paper idea is fabulous!!!

Great idea, Nicole. What is your design wall covered with (besides threads, that is)? I’m making a design wall and can’t decide if it would be better to use batting or flannel for it.

Stellar idea!! Can the same piece of freezer paper be repositioned to use repeatedly or does each part of the design wall need a fresh piece of freezer paper? Inquiring minds … you know!
Hope Grandpa is continuing to improve.

That’s a terrific idea!
I use the big “sofa size” lint rollers but I think this might be better – I go through a lot of those lint roller sheets. 🙂

Yes, pure genius!
I’ve used the sticky rollers and the batting almost pulled off the wall! I know what to use now! Thanks
Also I hope Grandpa is doing well.

If that is an older roll of freezer paper, don’t waste it. Just ran out recently and purchased a new roll, only to discover that now it is much thinner paper and has less coating on back. It does not work near as well for applique. 🙁

I use a flannel backed vinyl tablecloth for my design wall – wonder if it would hold up to the heat of the iron if I tried this? Hmmmm… Great idea!
