I am looking ahead to 2011 and the various projects that will occupy my attention and time. This embroidery project is one of them.
My sister Andrea and I want to join in an ongoing embroidery group that meets once a month at my favorite quilt shop, Prairie Queens. April leads a group of women who all work on independent projects and offers expert advice and encouragement. They are a super nice group of women, and I am looking forward to getting to know them better, and of course, improving my embroidery skills.
Since I want to advance past embroidering tea towels, I felt I needed to search out a project that would involve embroidery, but still could be incorporated into a quilt. That's just me. I am a quilter, first and foremost, and even though I am intrigued by embroidery, my first thoughts are "How can I work this into a quilt?"
Well, I think I am onto something. Brannock and Patek, who design for Moda, are scheduled to come out with a fabric collection called Lilac Hill, that I think will lend itself perfectly to the colors in this embroidery project, which I envision as the center medallion in my quilt, using their fabric.
Mmm, hmmm. Yes girls, I am onto something sweet here. You know I am going to have to call on my Math Skilled Friends (yoo hoo, Thelma? Carrie?) to help me figure out how to incorporate a rectangular embroidery center into a quilt, but I know they will come through for me.
Won't the combination of patchwork blocks (in these insanely lovely lavenders and greens) be fabulous with this Crabapple Hill embroidery pattern?

The embroidery design and colors are lovely – makes me want to pick up a needle and start embroidering. As for the fabric it is delightful and I can’t wait to see how it is all going to tie in together. Knowing your speed of production it won’t take long before we can all admire another one of your masterpieces. Enjoy yourself.

How lovely this quilt will be!
I wondered how the embroidery would stand up to the use quilts get, but then I remembered how many antique quilts have embroidery that has lasted. Go for it!! I look forward to seeing your quilt!
Hugs!

Isn’t it great to have an intriging, exciting project in the works? I can’t wait to see how this one turns out.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with. This embroidery design is also on my list of to-dos for 2011. I’m going to use a terra cotta wool for the vase and I also have some robins egg blue wool to use for the eggs. I thought that would be pretty to incorporate those in with the embroidery. I love it when people have different interpretations of projects. Good Luck with yours!

I absolutely love hand embroidery. I have a Crabapple Hill halloween pattern that I hope to start as soon as I get some of my UFOs cleared out. Wish I could find an embroidery group. Then I might get more of it done.

Welcome to the world of embroidery!! 🙂 I love it because I can take it with me and work on it while waiting for appointments. I can work on it in the evening while listening to the news. And yes, you will find a way to make a quilt out of it.
Crabapple Hills is my favorite U.S. embroidery designer. All my other favorites are Australian.
