A New Project. Yes, It’s Another Baby Quilt….

002
I can't help myself.  Sara bought a couple of darling pieces of art from a Japanese artist, and they are going into the baby's room.  They are whimsical depictions of a little girl and her best friend/companion, who is a bunny.  The colors in the two pieces are predominently red and aqua.

So, to date, I have made a pink and black quilt (my favorite so far), a green quilt (that will probably end up as a gift for some other baby), a Central Park orange and green quilt, and a Central Park purple and aqua quilt.  All of these are fabulous, but none of them actually "goes" with the color scheme of the nursery.  Hence the need for a new quilt.

What better fabric collection to serve the need for an aqua and red quilt than Bliss by Bonnie and Camille?  Is there any quilt that has been made out of this fabric group that has not been adorable?  That fabric collection is sheer genius, and believe me, I will buy anything Bonnie and Camille ever come out with in the future.  Look at their past collection Simple Abundance!  I didn't think that could be topped.  And here we are.  Bliss.

Anyway, the pattern I chose is this one by Margot Languedoc of The Pattern Basket.  Hello, it uses a jelly roll.  Which I just happened to have…

008
I cut out my pieces for my first block, above in the first picture.  I was recently sent a stick of fabric glue to review, and I was considering using it for my appliqued flower centers, but at the last minute decided that it might be better used for hand applique.  I may have to send one of the tubes to Thelma since she is doing a hand applique project.  I know she will let me know what she thinks of it.

003
I will review this product this week, but thought better of using it for machine applique.  Anyway, I digress.

004
Each block calls for four of these teensy little blocks.  You construct them, sew the four of them together and applique your flower center in the middle.  I used fusible interfacing to attach my flower center onto my background fabric, then machine stitched it on with a blanket stitch.  This unit is only 5 inches square!

005

Then you add on some surrounding strips in the dark fabric to finish the block.

006
Have you ever seen anything so cute?  I didn't think so.

007
So I made another one.

010
And I couldn't stop until I ran out of time!  These are fun!

  1. Now that is one cute baby quilt! Many quilts are good. The 11 month old granddaughter loves her quilts. She just sits on them and smiles. (Very gratifying I must say!). Have a great day Nicole!

  17. So cute!
Remember that you will need a quilt or two at your house for when the baby is visiting. So you can never have too many quilts for this baby.

  37. If the quilts don’t “go” in the baby’s room, they can still be used. They don’t always have to match! One to keep in their car with the rest of the emergency supplies. Also, I’m sure you will be getting a crib and all to keep at your house so you’ll need them there as well. I love Bliss!! Our local quilt guild had a Bliss challenge. Everyone loves that fabric.

  43. Love the Bliss fabric. I am just about finished with a quilt from a Miss Rosie book and I’m using Bliss. I’m down to the piano key border and I’m not having fun with it. This will be my second finish with Bliss and I think I still might have enough to try the baby quilt. It is too cute!

Is there any chance the nursery will be done in neutrals so these colorful, cute quilts you’ve made can be on every wall? Yes, this is one lucky baby, indeed!
