A Quarantine Story

Sydney

I hope you all had a nice weekend.  Our weather turned cold and rainy, so I spent a lot of time inside reading my books.  I zoomed through a couple of them, so at the end of the month, I should have a decent number to review for you.

My husband had a hankering for Potato Leek Soup, so we indulged ourselves in some of that along with our home-baked bread.  From the comments I received last week, it sounds as if a lot of you are bread bakers too!  I also had bought some fresh cherries and made a delicious bar cookie called Cherry Garcia Brownies.  I will definitely share that recipe with you this week.

Speaking of sharing, I meant to share this with you all last week but got sidetracked.  A reader of this blog named Dianne and I have been corresponding recently, and I think a lot of you will be so interested in her quarantine experience.  Dianne and her husband live half the year in California, and half the year in Australia.  Her husband's mom is still with them and they like to spend time with her.  This is their typical time to return to their home in Australia, and have they ever got a travel/quarantine story.  Australia requires all persons who enter the country to shelter in place for two weeks in a hotel when they arrive.  Fourteen days and they cannot stick as much as one toe outside their hotel room!  She and her husband have been put up at the government's expense at a five-star hotel in Sydney. Dianne has shared her adventure on her blog Calfornia GIrl in Oz, and I invite you to hop over and read her adventure.  To my knowledge, she and her husband are on day 10 of their lockdown at this point in time.  After 37 hours of travel and fourteen days stuck in a hotel room, I'll bet she'd be real glad to get some comments.  Be sure to start on Day One and read through all her posts.  They're so good!

  1. I traveled home from my sister’s in Florida as the quarantine was being put in place but it was nothing like Dianne’s journey! I read her Day One & will continue to catch up on the days that followed. A 5-Star hotel sounds lovely except when you’re wanting to be home sweet home in your own bed! Nice to know the expense was covered by the government, but still… Stay well!

  4. Thank you for sharing the link. Although I would not like the confinement, the idea that the government is taking care of its citizens is very appealing. We are still staying at home in my part of Maryland and watching the numbers continue to rise.
    Stay well Nicole.

  7. Hawaii is also requiring a 14 day quarantine in a hotel if you visit there. I saw in the news today that a visitor from New York posted pictures on the beach in Hawaii before the quarantine was over and he got arrested.

  13. Thanks for sharing my Quarantine Journal, Nicole! Today is our final day in quarantine, and we will have our nurses’ evaluation today before we are allowed to depart tomorrow. If the nurse who does our evaluation is the same nurse who did our second swab, I’ll be VERY tempted to give him a good kick in the shins! (Just kidding…sort of!)
Stay safe and healthy. Best to you and your readers who commented above…and I’ll be watching for that brownie recipe, too.
Look forward to maybe having an in-person cup of coffee or glass of wine next time we’re in California (whenever THAT is allowed).
