Sorry for the little break. I have been playing catch up with all the things I let slide the past couple of months. My grand daughter is back at school now and normally things would be returning to a regular schedule. We are getting things ready for our visit to Ireland during the month of September, and that has been occupying a bit of time.
One funny thing happened last week. I had just stepped off my front porch on the way to the car when I heard something very large crashing through the shrubbery right next to me. I was so startled I shrieked. It turns out a good sized deer had been resting underneath the porch and I had disturbed it by clomping down the walkway from the house. I can tell you I was the one who was the more disturbed by the meet up. After scrambling out from under the house, the deer stopped to nibble nonchalantly on my rose bushes while giving me a suspicious side eye glare. After a moment it ambled off. I hope it doesn't make a regular habit of charging out at me unexpectedly. My heart can't take it.

That had to be a real surprise. KInd of exciting though without the part about him munching on your rose bush. Things do seem to be settling into “school” routine around here as well. Before you go on your big trip I want to be sure to tell you have a wonderful time with your son and a fabulous safe trip!

I had the startling experience of walking around a corner of our property on my way back from my morning walk and almost walking into a deer. He was a decent sized guy with a 6 pt rack. We eyed each other a bit and then he went back to eating and I backed away and around the building. Yikes!

We have 40 acres, much of it in hay. Deer are everywhere & have no fear of humans or dogs. They feel very comfortable coming into our backyard to eat crab apples that fall off the trees–not good because they leave ‘calling cards’. Have a great trip to see your son & tour the British Isles!

We often have deer in our backyard. One winter my husband found bear prints in the snow in the backyard. And one evening we watched baby foxes play in the neighbor’s driveway. We live in the city!!! Always fun to see these animals.

What an unexpected surprise! I agree that it was better a deer than a bear. Phew!
We have several wooded acres and often see deer from a distance.
HEnjoy the happy anticipation about your upcoming trip!
