A Welcome Diversion

001
Three of my sisters and my niece Camille are coming to see me tomorrow.  What a lovely diversion this will be for me.  I just want to sit in the comfort of my loved ones and chatter about nothing important.

Too many big decisions going on at my house right now.  My husband has spent the past three days with his parents, and has been quite shocked at how child like and helpless they have become.  We think that getting them into an assisted living situation as soon as possible is the best thing to do for all concerned.

My mother in law got through her surgery quite well.  Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.  I know that must have had something to do with how well she did!  She is now out of ICU and in a regular hospital room.  In a week they will move her to a convalescent hospital.  I hope that while she is there we can do everything to pack up their belongings and get them settled into an assisted care facility.

My sisters and I have been planning a little excursion down the coast for the past month or so.  My sister Trish heard about an antiques festival that is being held near San Luis Obispo, and we all agreed that it would be the perfect weekend get away for us girls.  We were thinking SLO was about an hour away from me, but it turns out it is two hours away.  And the antique fair is in Nipomo, an additional half hour down the coast.   Five hours in the car round trip?  Hmmm.  We have to talk.

We may ammend out plan somewhat and do something closer to home.  We will have to take a vote on it.  Meanwhile, my table is all set for dinner tomorrow night!  Linguine and shrimp is the entree, along with baby greens with melty goat cheese on toasted baguettes for a salad.  I haven't figured out dessert yet, but maybe a bakery can help me out!

Aren't those yellow wine glasses perfect with my dinnerware?  Hand blown Italian glass, and I only have two of them.  Ack.   They sure look good.  I will never be able to find more of them.  I just put them in the picture because they are exactly right with the china.  The china is Villeroy and Boch, a pattern called Audun Promendade.  Nothing from Home Goods on this table.   Only the best for my girls.

Thanks again for your wonderfully kind words and encouragement yesterday.  I really appreciate it.

  3. Lovely table setting, china, and glasses. Hope you can haunt eBay, estate sales, or ETSY for more of the glasses.
I’m glad to hear your MIL is doing so well and hope that good recovery continues.
It is a jolt to realize your parents have changed and become child-like. DH is going thru that here, too, and it’s no fun. Understanding hugs to you and your DH.
Have a wonderful time with your sisters and niece and play to your heart’s content! 5 hours in a car is a long day trip, but is the delight while at the antiques festival worth it? Maybe, maybe not. Enjoy deciding!
    Hugs!

  5. The reality of how parents become so frail so fast (it’s probably been happening but all of a sudden seems so evident) is something to digest. An assisted living facility will give them health care, regular meals and, most of all, safety. It’s hard to do, but once they’re settled you & your husband will feel so much better. Continued thoughts are sent your way each day.

  7. Your table looks great. I love the glasses. Have you tried Replacements Unlimited in North Carolina? They have a service where they try to match china, glassware, dinnerware, silver, etc. I believe that they have a website.

  11. Your table is lovely and may your time with your family be blessed. Great to hear your MIL came through the surgery ok. The girl time with family will be fun. I live in Abilene which is West Texas and El Paso which is also West Texas is an 8 hour drive! We can’t get anywhere in Texas in a short amount of time. We are considered close to Dallas and it’s a 6 hour round trip! Hope you have a great trip!

  13. Love your table. I wish I could convince my sisters to let’s do an excursion. They always talk like it’s a good idea, but I can never pin them down to details. Glad to hear MIL is doing well.

  21. Nicole,
So sorry to hear about your inlaws – it really is hard when one sees their parents age – the sandwich years someone called it- elderly parents and grown up children who start their families or sometimes just finishing their education. Demands in lots of different directions. Sending you lots of good wishes and positive thoughts for you all.
I love your table setting- you are so talented- You find the perfect pieces to go together. The dishes are beautiful and so are the linens. Thanks for sharing.
    Warmest regards,
    Anna
