You do get the idea of what my finished top is going to look like, don't you? I have sewn the center section of nine rows all together, and have the blocks for the two side sections arranged on either side of the center. The inner border of small red hour glass blocks will go between the center section and the two side panels. Although, I am thinking things look pretty fine without the two inner borders of red hourglass blocks! I like the symmetry of the groupings of four Ohio Star blocks.
Hmmm, now I am considering leaving them out. Would that be sacreligious? Do those two inner borders of red hour glass blocks add a lot to the finished look? I guess they do. I like the sort of argyle effect they give. I'm keeping them in. That is the original Eventide quilt, made by Carrie Nelson, pictured below. See how cool those inner small hour glass borders are?
I'm so glad I have reached this point in the contruction of the quilt! Only the small hour glass units and the pieced border and this quilt is done.
Goodness, I am so glad I took the blue out of the larger hour glass units. I am still getting comments from people telling me it is a very good thing I did that! Whew. I would hate to end up with an ugly quilt after all the sewing I have done on this project!

Oh I love it! It such a soothing quilt. Very beautiful. It WAS such a wise decision to take the blue out. Can’t wait to start mine!!

I’m glad you took the blue out and that you are going to put the hour glass blocks in. This is going to be a beautiful quilt. Nice job.

Applause, applause! You’ve made a wonderful quilt and the top is almost finished!
When you were giving thought to leaving the red hourglass blocks out, did you consider using them as a first border? That is another possibility if you’re still at all uncertain about their use.
BTW, I think the quilt would have be wonderful in a different way had you kept the blue blocks in.
Hugs!

Beautiful! and I have to agree- the hourglass blocks add that certain something. Now you’ve made me want to add another “To-Do” to my already too long list!
Can’t wait to see your finished quilt.

It’s beautiful. I’d include the hour glass blocks and use the darker brown or black that you have in the quilt. I think that would make it really pop. Just an idea.

Oh Nicole ! This is grogeous! You are almost done. I was like you near the end of this quilt about the small red 1/2 square inner borders and I am SO glad I did it. They really did go together quickly and add so much to this quilt

Those hourglasses have always thrown this pattern off for me. I have a problem with the symetry being off but I have seen so many beautiful quilts popping up during this sew along that the border has grown on me. I am not sure if I would add the border if it was mine but I am much more open to consider it after this parade of quilts.

Oh NIcole, I just love the way this quilt looks when you leave off the inner border, that secondary pattern is even better when there’s more to it. Although I couldn’t leave the inner border off, it really does add so much, but, maybe another quilt, with smaller blocks, and no border…..that I could do…..

It’s stunning. But I do think that the inner border will really make it sizzle.

Yup, those red hourglass blocks kick it up a notch…put them in. Your quilt is beautiful…another winner! I like the blue in Carrie’s quilt…why did we not like it in yours? Hmmm….

Nicole it is GORGEOUS!! This one is every bit as good as Elizabeth!! It is wonderful without the added inner borders, but the inner borders really raise it to another level. You are one clever quilting lady my dear!!!

Listen Nicole, if you EVER get to a point that you have an ‘ugly’ quilt, I will not hesitate to jump in my car and drive 2 hours to your house and take the beautiful, I mean UGLY, quilt off of your hands!!
I am just that kind of bloggyland friend. ;0

Fabric placement on this pattern is very daunting to me. Because the pattern’s values all seem so neutral and mid range, it is hard to figure out what to make pop, so it doesn’t all blend into nothing. I love your quilt without the blue… it was a great decision!

It would definitely NOT be sacreligious. Rule No. 1 — Your quilt means your choices are the only ones that matter.
It would be different without the diamond border, that’s all. And since your judgement is pretty terrific, I think you should do what feels right. 🙂
With or without the diamonds, this is going to be a beautiful quilt.

Wow, your quilt is beautiful – dare I say even better than the original?

Beautiful job! The colours are very reminiscent of the quilt on your banner. I love it!

Nicole your Even Tide quilt is just beautiful! I would leave in the small hour glass boarders. You have done so much work on this, and what a beautiful quilt to show for it! (I’m glad you got rid of those pinks and blues too! :))

It is gorgeous. I have been quilting mine today and I just love how the red squares pop up. I hope to take a good pic tomorrow, now it is already dark here.
