Asthma

Sorry I am a bit late with my post this morning.  Ugh.  I have been suffering the symptoms of a chronic condition I suffer from–asthma.  I don't know if it is the change in our weather, some allergen in the air, or just me, but I sure have been wheezy.  During the day I get short of breath very easily and nights are the worst.  I just can't seem to get a good lungful of air.

Luckily I have today off and will try to get in to see my doctor.  She has a few tricks to set me right again.  And heaven knows I need to be set right!

Thank you for all the suggestions on which Ashcombe pattern design I should use for my purple fabrics.  I think Thelma was the first to come up with the suggestion that I do some blocks of each design in my quilt top.  I think that could be kind of interesting.  Just a few strategically placed pieced blocks, with the majority of them being unpieced to show off the fabrics.  I always appreciate you all weighing in with your opinions!

This weekend my son and his Irish lass will be home with us!  I want to prepare some delicious and typical meals from our region for Mary Ann.  I think a good old American barbeque may be in order for Labor Day.  I have it on good authority that she loves scallops, so I would like to make her something involving those.

In addition, my niece is getting married on the beach at Pajaro Dunes on September 10–yikes, only nine days from now–and we are planning a big family gathering there for three days around the date of the wedding.  I am so excited about that.  The beach is exremely significant to our family, as my parents had a family vacation house there years ago.  All the children in the family grew up to have so many fond memories of weekends and summers spent there.  We actually have not been back there to stay since my parents sold the house. It will bring back so many remembrances of when my mom was still alive.

Anyway, I need to pull myself together to be in top form for these events I have been looking forward to all summer long!

  1. Hi Nicole!
Oh my! I know how awful asthma is – my father suffers from it and hardly can sleep at night for the last weeks…he can’t wait for the rainy days of fall when the air gets clearer…and he already dreads the winter with dry air (and dust) because of the heaters…
When I’m with him it almost causes me pain to hear his heavy breaths… (don’t want my papa to suffer!).
So I really, really hope your doctor can help…my fingers are crossed.
The wedding at the beach sounds wonderful – I hope everything will be right & you’ll all have a fabulous time!
    Cheers, Julia

  3. What a great way to cap off your summer! Good luck with the asthma. I never had a problem with that until I moved to Utah – it’s only occasional, but no fun at all.

  5. I can see that you and Thelma can inspire each other. I like her blog a lot also. Both of you have great quilting ideas.

  7. DH was diagnosed with asthma at age 57 and AMIL was diagnosed last year at age 78. The inhalers and humidified household air (NOT high humidity!) are almost instant cures for them both. Good luck getting in to see the doctor today!
Have a wonderful time this weekend and at the beach. May the memories that location holds bring each of you much joy!
I look forward to pictures of the purple quilt when you’ve had time to enjoy every part of the process and it’s ready for photos!
    Hugs!

  9. Small world. My son got married at Parajo Dunes in May 2008. It was my first trip to California, and was just a few miles down the road from Ft. Ord where my husband spent his basic training….many, many years ago. 🙂
