Be afraid. Be VERY afraid. I am about to reveal more about myself than you may want to know. The photo above depicts my "stash closet" in all its untidy disorganization. When we moved into this house, I had the double closet in my sewing room customized to be mostly shelving for my fabric bundles, fabric lengths, and on-going projects. You only see half the contents of the closet in this picture, so you must use your imagination. You can certainly tell I like fabric bundles.
Now, dear reader, I will share with you a sight I only allow my very closest acqaintences in on. We’re friends, right? Be prepared, it is not for the faint of heart.
This is where I keep my auxillary back up fabric, should the vast quantity in my closet not suffice for any given project. This fabric is organized in plastic bins according to color or theme. I seem to have a real prediliction to collecting green fabric in particular, as you can see below.
Recently my husband looked deep into my eyes with an expression of grave concern. "Dear, do you really feel that it is necessary to keep such a large inventory of fabric on hand?" Umm, yeah, I do.

WOWZER!!!!! What were you doing in my walk in closet in my sewing room??? And, thanks for organizing the boxes and bins of fabric I’ve had in a storage unit since we moved into a new house almost two years ago.
Oh wait – while most of that fabric looks incredibly familiar it’s not mine – Whew!!! LOL 😉
Incredibly organized, Nicole – great collections! And, don’t you just love those small snap cases? I have a nice stack in my walk in closet, too. They’re great for organizing a project!

I’m more amazed with your organizational skills that with the amount of fabric. Looks like a reasonable stash to me. (Any tips on organizing–and keeping it that way?)

O.M.G. I thought *I* had a lot of fabric!?! You are the queen, Nicole. But all so neatly organized. I laughed about your “green” and “more green.” Thanks for having the courage to share your addiction with the blogging world!

I’m not really amazed at all of your fabric, I green with envy at how organized it is.

Oh my heavens. I was impressed by the relatively neat bundles on the shelves. And then I kept scrolling. Wow. That’s amazing! LOL! I laughed “green” and “more green” too..

You are probably wondering why you are suddenly receiving a comment on part of your blog from February last year. Well it was just yesterday that I discovered your blog. Now some blogs when discovered are the sort that you think to yourself “This is something that I must read from now on”.
On the other hand there are the rarer and infinitely more precious blogs, and those are the ones that, when discovered you don’t just want to read from that time forward, but also to savour and delight in every word and every picture there is.
Your blog is definitely one of these and at the moment I am indulging myself and reading from the beginning. That is how I came across those amazing photos of your stash. Not organised – to my eyes it looks wonderful. Makes me long to run my fingertips over the fabric, to frolic and explore to my hearts content, and the boxes hold such a feeling of pregnant expectation, of endless possibilities.
Of course you can’t have too much fabric. If my budget and housing circumstances would allow it my stash would rival that of the largest fabric store. I could by fabric by the roll. (Why does this sound like “if I ruled the world”?)
We have recently moved to a beautiful part of Australia called Gippsland, about 45 minutes to the east of Melbourne. The sacrifice to make this move was my sewing room and now my stash (as it is) resides in one small (but cute) old schoolhouse cupboard. Some of the not strictly patchwork materials (like a large amount of raw silks) I’ve organised into plastic containers that are currently sitting in the corner of my bedroom (now also sewing room) because I still can’t bear to consign them to the storage container when DH will almost certainly place them in a fair distant corner and stack other less interesting boxes, three deep in front of them.
Once more thanks from your wonderful blog.
