Belle Meade Has Begun To Take Shape

I spent a lovely weekend at my sewing machine—or a good deal of the weekend at any rate.  I pressed and trimmed the last of the 656 half square triangles for the Belle Meade project I am working on along with Thelma (Cupcakes 'n' Daisies).

I tell you, those half square triangles don't just make themselves.

But, here they are, obligingly waiting to be chosen for one of the 41 blocks that make up the Belle Meade quilt.

My first block is shown at the top of this post.  A total of six blocks were completed this weekend.  How is your project going Thelma?  Have you got all your blocks finished already?

I had a slight interruption when my husband invited me to go see The King's Speech at our local movie theater this Sunday.  What a fine movie it was!  I highly recommend it.  It certainly gave me a new and different impression of the Queen Mum.  It was easy to see how she became such a beloved and popular figure in British Royalty.  Did you know she lived to be 101?  The movie is about her husband, King George VI, but she played a very supportive role in his life, that is for sure.

  9. You sure did get a lot of sewing done!! Wow, 6 blocks already! You’ll be done before you know it! Blocks look so pretty laid out together. I know I am going to love this quilt. Did you buy a kit? Looks like there are wovens too. I love wovens from FG!

  11. I think The King’s Speech skipped over our redneck movie thee-ay-ters because we only get to see superhero movies and flicks about country and western sangers who done wrong and felt bad about it.
    I want to see it sometime. Have wanted to since I first heard about it.

  19. Yes indeed that quilt is going to be absolutely gorgeous. You have such a good eye for colour combination – I have yet to see one of your creations that I did not covet. I too look forward to seeing the King’s Speech when it comes to my area – at the moment it is only playing in Montreal and I don’t feel like making the trek into the big city unless I absolutely have to.

  27. Stunning, Nicole! This will truly be a work of art! I save all my little triangle clippings in antique glass jars! It’s fun to see how colorful they are when they fill up and then decorate my studio with them!

  45. I bet your dreaming in triangle/squares! I showed my son (he was walking by) the pic of the cutting mat with them on it – he said wow and are you quilters nuts – those are a lot of work – he has no idea!

  51. This quilt is going to be stunning as usual! It really is coming together nicely. I was trying to go see The King’s Speech over the weekend with my girlfriends, but it didn’t happen. Drat. And Colin Firth just won the Golden Globe for his performance!
