Block of the Month Clubs

Have you ever joined a Block of the Month Club?  I love them because regular as clockwork, a new block comes in the mail each month.  If you stay on task and make the block each month, at the end of a year you have a gorgeous quilt to put together.  The most recent BOM Club I joined is called Simply Sophisticated, offered by the Fatquarter Shop http://www.fatquartershop.com/Simply-Sophisticated-Mystery-Block-of-the-Month.asp?Store_id=499&T=1  The entire quilt will be constructed using the Harvest Home collection by Moda designers Blackbird Designs.  I received my fabric and pattern for the first block on Friday and got straight to work.

If you join a Block of the Month Club that is sponsored by Fatquarter Shop, you can be certain that the amount of fabric given for each block will be just right and that the instructions will be clear as can be.  They offer a color swatch sheet of all the fabrics in the collection, plus a color pattern instruction sheet that leaves no confusion as to what fabric to use where.  It is quite brilliant, and I am never disappointed with anything Fatquarter shop offers.  You can still join this BOM, so if you like the fabric collection, go on over and sign up.

This project is a mystery, in that you do know what fabric you are using, but the block you get each month is a surprise.  It will be a sampler kind of project, as each block will be different.  This first pattern yielded not just one block, but two!   Hmmmm, that is part of the fun–to see where the project might be going!

  5. I finished my blocks this weekend, too. I am waiting to post them because I’m doing this quilt through my shop in American Jane fabrics, too, and wanted to show them together! What a fun, easy block.

  7. I am doing this one from Fat Quarter Shop too. My block arrived last week, but I haven’t made it yet. Are we supposed to make two blocks or did you just have enough fabric to make two? The mystery of the whole thing is kind of fun!

  11. How I love that fabric! I love the Fat Quarter Shop. Easy to order from and all put together so neatly. I am in a BOM locally, and it is all civil war era reproductions. I am a bit bored because it is the same double nine patch each month with different fabrics. Cool thing though is that it only cost $3.00 to join and if you go and turn in your homework (block!) she gives you the next one free. So a whole quilt top for $3.00! This is the kind of fabric financial talk I share with my DH not the other kind where I just spent $100 on a tower of fat quarters. Hee. Pam in Chico

  13. I also joined this BOM. I love the Fat Quarter Shop and how everything is packaged so nicely. They are a class act in everything they do. The best news is that I also got both of my blocks done this weekend and I love this fabric line. Nicole, I love your blog and read it and get inspired frequently. Thanks for blogging.

  15. Aack! I better get working on mine today! I’m doing this one and also the Designer Mystery Block of the Month through them. So far so good as before I’ve failed miserabley. The way the Fat Quarter Shop has for this particular one makes you want to get it done, though.
Are you going to Pacific International?

  19. Very pretty, Nicole. The Fat Quarter Shop has really nice things but I find them on the pricey side. I, like Pam above, made a BOM quilt through my LQS and ended up paying a total of $5.00 for all the fabric and patterns. You had to show up one day a month for show-n-tell to get the next month’s block. Good luck with yours, it is tempting though…
