Bookstores of London

Bonjour Paris and Hello London.  There is so much to do in London, but I always inflict visits to British bookstores on my family when we are here. They are simply the best.  The British are very serious about reading and I swear there are nearly as many bookstores in London as there are Starbucks.  And that is a lot.

Don’t you just love this greeting?  My first stop was Foyles, and I came away with some not yet published in the US books.

This is the one I really really wanted to get, as Kate Morton is a favorite author, and her new book isn’t out in the US until next month. It was three inches thick and weighed five pounds so my husband said “No” quite emphatically.

(Sorry my iPad won’t let me orient this properly, but I think you can make out what it is).

We also went to Daunt Books in Marylebone and Waterstones on Regent Street.  My heaven.

  4. I would sneak it into my carry-on bag….hubby would never know until I pulled it out on the plane to start reading it on journey home. You need to work on your deception skills. Very necessary to have if you really want something. ;p

  7. Your heaven, for sure! It looks like you’re having a great time touring book shops! I agree, that’s a lovely greeting for book lovers!

  10. Be still my heart! I envy you so. There are so few book stores left in the U.S. I spent many an afternoon in Borders book store. It was such a treat to sit and peruse a book you bought or a magazine with a cup of coffee. While I love my iPad I also like to hold a real book for a change. London is on my travel wish list. I am a huge fan of Liberty of London fabric. Bummer to have to leave behind The Clockmaker’s Daughter. Although it is tough having your son living so far away, what an amazing treat it is to visit. Thanks for sharing your travels!
I just finished ‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens and enjoyed it. A different and interesting story with a twist at the end.

  16. My kind of heaven, too! I’ve just reserved two of Kate Morton’s slightly earlier books and am 39th waiting for The Clockmaker’s Daughter. Oddly, our library already has that book on CD. Go figure.
I agree, you need to go back and get the book. Wink, wink, nudge, nudger, say no more! 😉
    Hugs!
