I sure didn't get any sewing done this past weekend, so I am showing you a recent acquisition that is still available from Fat Quarter Shop. Rene Nanneman is known for her beautiful small prints, many of which are the perfect background fabrics. She is famous for these "ditsy" prints, which in many cases nearly read as solids. They work so beautifully in many projects. This offering is called Candy Corn, and is a collection of beautiful fall and Halloween colored fabrics. I plan to add in a few more blacks and lime greens when ever I finally figure out what I will do with this collection of fat quarters.
Which brings up a sore point. I have SO many of these lovely small bundles and larger ones as well. So many. A friend "in the business" recently offered me a bundle of a recent collection and tempted as I was, I had to say "no". There is surely a limit to what I will be able to sew into projects in my lifetime! Not to mention the storage issue. Just where is all this stuff supposed to go? This recent move has forced me to look long and hard at all the fabric I am moving around with me wherever I go. Seriously, I have more than anyone really needs. Hmmm. Maybe a stash sale is in my future. I will keep you posted.
This tub is just a small sampling of some very cool stuff I hope to use in projects–some day. All tempting offerings purchased from FQS. I am so weak. Are the rest of you as bad as I am? I just have the hardest time passing up new collections by some of my favorite designers. Although, I am finding if I hang onto a Minick and Simpson, a Fig Tree, a 3 Sisters, or a French General group long enough, a new group by those designers eventually comes out that is a dead ringer for a collection I already own, but haven't cut into yet!

I adore Halloween and am so tempted to purchase a candy corn bundle, but…..
I will never use all the fabric I have. Folks who get a quilt from me will never know it isn’t the most current fabric line. This year I made a decision not to enter a quilt store and to delete all online quilt store emails before opening them. It hasn’t been as hard as I thought it would be.
Looking at my fabric you can’t even tell that I used 167 yards of fabric this year!
Thanks for reminding me why I have put myself on a fabric diet.
Glad you are back to posting.

I got out my Fall and Halloween patterns this morning and want to make at least a couple of them but I think I might be lacking in oranges. This group of fabrics looks perfect! I was buying a lot of bundles too and lately I’ve discovered I want to go back to using bits and pieces of my stash and not be confined to just one line of fabrics. I think the quilts I’ve made with bundles are sort of boring in a way. So this year I’m trying to get out of the bundle ‘rut’. Thanks for the inspiration!!

I hear ya. I love the Fat Quarter Shop. I usually busy fat quarter bundles and charm square bundles to the point I have so many I don’t have room! I spent one year only using fabric I had and really cut my stash down quite a bit but it’s back up there again…just can’t resist those collections by my favorite designers…is there a self-help group for us? I hope not, I see more new collections coming out that I’d like…I still say it’s cheaper than therapy…LOL

Candy Corn is yummy – both in fabrics and in actual candy (and ’tis almost the season for the candy!).
Count me in with those who’ve put themselves on a fabric diet. The only fabric I’ve bought this year is a bit of the Nancy Drew fabric. I have lots of charm square bundles and for some, I have two to four bundles so will be delving into my copy of Nickel Quilts for interesting things to do with them. Otherwise, am living off my stash as I LOVE scrappy quilts and have vowed never, ever to make a quilt from a kit or from all one fabric line. For better or for worse, every one of my quilts is really one of a kind.
Yep, it’s cheaper than than therapy!
Hugs!

If I had the money to I would buy a lot of yummy fabric. I don’t have much of a stash. I drool over a lot of fabric. Can’t wait to see what you do with this collection of fabrics.

I hear you. I need to do some “sorting” myself. One of my favorite things to do is go to the FG website and go to the “what’s coming” and scroll and drool. It makes me sooooo happy.

I love the latest Candy Corn packet!! I’m getting better and better about saying no. I really don’t have the room and have learned another great line will be out soon!!

I love the Candy Corn fabrics too but resisted getting them. One good thing about the Minick & Simpson, Fig Tree and French General fabrics is when they come out with a new collection it matches perfectly with older fabric lines. I’m afraid I’m a lot like you, can’t seem to resist getting new fabric especially at FQS. I have way too much too, it’s a bit ridiculous. Can’t wait to see what you make with the Candy Corn fabrics.

…and saving that collection (some of it’s crumbs left over in my case) for the next collection is a good thing right?? Don’t want designers to get the idea that they should change dyes between collections to the point that we can’t mix and match. I keep one tub of Fr.General, Minick and Simpson, and another of Fig Tree because I LOVE the continuity and the way they go together. Hope they never change because I buy their fabrics endlessly. Add Bonnie & Camille to that list. They had me at Bliss and I have been buying their brights ever since.

Your candy corn bundle is really cute. You know me – I have a hard time resisting any fabric!

When we moved I discovered fabric and kits I had totally forgotten about. More than I can use in a lifetime. A sale might be in my future as well.

I’ve had to cut back on purchasing fabric because I have a storage issue and I think I already have more fabric than I can use up in my lifetime. But it can be so difficult to pass an interesting piece of fabric by – especially if it’s on sale!

Oh good gosh,… I am a soul sister with you Nicole. I have a bitter sweet affection for my designers. It seems like they are putting out collections faster now. Although, who doesn’t like to look at new designs … I find that when I FINALLY get my hands on the long awaited yardage of the NEWEST collection – they have already debuted their next one! I can’t keep up! I want to immerse myself in the fabrics, but I don’t have time with that schedule. Did they always put out 3 or 4 collections (and some of them much more!) a year? My FQS bundles are all tucked away in their original FQS boxes (covet those) and under beds, in closets, … I need to do an inventory.

I see most of us are in the same boat . . . awash in our fabric stashes and unable to resist the temptation to add more. Like you, I need multiple lifetimes to use up my stash!

I am sooooo tempted by that bundle but so far am resisting.
So glad you are back on line so that we can have our morning tea (or coffee) together before the day gets underway.

Yes, I’m just the same. So are my girlfriends. I plan to sew up until my last day on earth and then I want the fabric buried with me. ;p
To have a hobby that I am passionate about makes me happy. Maybe a bit of a hoarder too but at least my fabric is all neatly organized and contained. ;p

I’m in the midst of changing my sewing room around to accommodate another shelf for my older fabrics. I really feel like I should do something with them, but then, another new collection appears and I’m torn between ordering or using what I have. I’ve managed to collect a moderate sized collection of Civil War fabrics that I like to work with, but even still, I have way to much fabric for this lifetime. I’m going to try to make a dent in my plaids. Not sure what pattern yet, I’ll have to look through my pattern books (of which I have way to many) for something. The funny part is that having all this fabric makes me feel comforted and I don’t think I could part with it.

YES, I’m just as weak as you are! I’ve told my hubby that I have enough material/kits to last me three life times, at least – and there’s no way I’ll ever get it all done, so why do I keep buying! Like you, I have specific designers that I just keep buying a FQ bundle of every collection, why? Not sure, but I guess I think I’ll use it someday. I’ve taken over nearly every cabinet/spot that fabric can be stashed in our home, and now it’s even in tubs/UPS/USPS packages sitting around the house. It must stop, I have a bad obsession!

I keep adding more to my shelves too but I’ve passed on some collections that I really regret not grabbing when they were available. I loved the colours in Pom Pom de Paris but didn’t buy any and now every time I see a quilt made with that collection I feel a pang! Also was just learning to quilt when Rhubarb and Ginger came out and still regret not having any, now if I love it, it comes to live with me!

Yep…tempted with each and every collection. Have to say that I do think twice but end up ordering after all. Never can have enough as always new projects….that’s what I tell my hubby!

I got tired of collecting fabric to move from house to house. I’ve been doing a lot of hand slapping not to push buttons on orders. Oh yes, I fill up my shopping cart online with excitement…..then delete. Sad face. I’m trying to use up what I already have and love…but it’s so hard! Boy girl, I hear ya!!!

Love the Candy Corn fabric but I have to say not to that one 🙁
If I do buy fabric it is usually Minick & Simpson, Andover and French General . Alot of the fabric lines coming out seem to be bright modern fabrics and I am not interested in those $$$

I LOVE Candy Corn! So far, I have been able to only purchase fabric for planned projects…they sit in my UFO pile waiting to be used for their very specific purpose. It’s still a problem 🙁
I would love to participate in your stash sale if you decide to have one.

I am in the same boat with you and all the others that commented. However, my daughter-in-law and granddaughter both want to learn to quilt so I tell myself that I can supply them with fabric or leave it to them in my will.:) Seriously, I think I’ve finally figured out that however much I love the current line of fabric I’m drooling over, there will always be another line I love showing up in the quilt stores.

I am such a sucker for a “new” line! You see it online, love it, know it’s a limited print, and think “I gotta have it!”. I also like 3 sisters, French General, and Minnick & Simpson. I also like Lakehouse fabrics and Urban Chiks. So I have plenty to avoid!

I love those little prints! My new favorite line coming out is by Pam Buda “American Gothic” for Marcus Brothers.

I, too, have a hard time saying no and http://www.sgcountrysampler.com gets me in trouble ALL THE TIME! Anything those ladies sew in that shop calls my name. I was just there yesterday and I would love to just move on in.

I can relate! Only my stash is tons of wool for my rugs…your mouth would fly open! Why do we do this? I have a smaller stash for quilts that I suppose I will be making in heaven if I get there! One never knows!

Yes I’m as tragic as you with fabric purchases! I have been back working for just over a year now since finishing my extended maternity leave, and with the US and Aussie dollar at parity or better for most of this twelve months, I have ordered so much fabric from the FQS. I have helped restore your economy single handedly I think! I love all the designers you have mentioned, add in some Bonnie and Camille and Sweetwater too. I completely agree that their lines continue to coordinate as they produce more. You know, I’ve heard a rumour that Moda actually gives them the colour shades to work from?
