Hi there. I am still alive, but barely. Yesterday was my first day at my new job, and it took the starch right out of me. I have to get used to getting up at 6:00 AM, a habit I have lapsed out of. Learning so many new things makes my brain ache, and when I got home last night I was too tired to budge off my spot on the couch. I just sat there and watched my husband cook dinner. I had been so organized too; planning menus and shopping for everything in advance. I had this vision of myself coming home from work, throwing on an apron and banging pots and pans around to turn out a gourmet meal. Maybe that will happen. Some day.
The workspace is nice, the people are great, the job is interesting. My boss had a bouquet of flowers for me and a group of people took me out to lunch at a nice restaurant nearby. It is just the schedule that will take some getting used to!
I do like having a reason to get dressed up and wear some of those hundreds of shoes you all know are sitting in my closet! More than that though, is the good feeling I have about getting out of the house, interacting with other adults and accomplishing something that benefits others.
How is Ozzie? He is doing fine. My husband came home at lunch time to visit him and he was napping happily on his favorite chair. My husband’s favorite chair that is! Here is a secret revealed to all of you: we have been considering getting another dog to be a companion for Ozzie so he won’t be lonely during the day. This weekend we interviewed a dog named Kelly, Ozzie’s Aunt to be exact. She did not care for him and his attentions at all. In fact, she was quite grumpy with him. Then we met Ozzie’s brother Glenn, and it was hate at first sight. Talk about sibling squabbles. Just as we were getting into our car to go home dogless, the breeder said, “Hang on, let me show you one more dog….” And he brought out Harmony. Harmony is Ozzie’s five month old sister. Same parents, different littler. They LOVED each other. Perfect pairing of two crazy, peppy, fun loving dogs who share the same sense of humor and energy level.
The problem was, the breeder has not yet decided if he wants to show or breed her, so we have to wait and see if she is going to have a Career or could become our pet. Can you imagine? Ozzie and Harmony? So, for the time being, we still just have one dog. But you never know….
Oh, and this is interesting. The nice breeder and his wife kept mentioning how gorgeous Ozzie turned out and how whatever reason they had rejected him to be a show dog had completely disappeared. They said Ozzie had been their number one pick to be their next star show dog, except for some issue with his stance that he has totally outgrown. And after seeing the other dogs this weekend, I have to say, no one equalled Ozzie in handsomeness!
OK, it’s off to work for me. Hope you all have a great day sewing! Those were the good old days for me!

Hi girly, I just wanted to say- Have a GREAT day at work! I know how hard it is to get your body used to a new schedule. I have always worked 7am-7pm and loved it. Then, the hospital where I was working moved me to 7pm-7am! For a year and a half! YUCKY :o)
THEN, they moved me to (2) 16 hour shift back to back for a couple years…..there’s a challenge, lol!
Now, I’m back on 7am-7pm finally!
Now, early mornings are my favorite. Give it a month and you’ll be boumcing outta bed at 6am like you’ve been doing it all your life. Amie :oD

I am so sure that harmony would just be so much fun for Ozzie & Remy to play with! I got a CAbi catalog! I like a few things, mostly the jeans, tasel belt, Dinner jacket, liverppool vest, and peacock boyfriend sweater.

Ozzie certainly looks comfortable. I hope the breeder decides to let Harmony come be a companion to Ozzie — pictures of two of those wonderful dogs will be too cute! You will get used to the getting up early — and probably find you’re getting up early even on weekends.

It is so hard starting a new job…like you said lots for you to learn and a new routine for your body to learn. It will take a few weeks, but I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it.

I know that whenever I get going back to work after my summer vacation it knocks the starch out of me for a couple of weeks. I find myself longing for the days of sewing whenever I want and going shopping with my friends. But I get in the swing of things and I enjoy my job and I love seeing my work friends again and pretty soon all is well. Hang in there-you’ll be ok soon.

Every time I see in Google Reader that you’ve updated the blog, I think “Oh boy! Either Ozzie or a beautiful quilt!!” Today we got both. =) I’m sorry you’re so tired after the first day of work, but as I’m sure you know, you’ll work into it.
We, his loyal fans, could have told the breeder that Ozzie was a “Mary Poppins” dog–Practically Perfect in Every Way–except for the shoe thing……

Ozzie and a new friend? I am very excited!
Sounds like they gave you a wonderful welcome at your new job. You will adapt and it will be much easier in time doing the balancing act between work/family/quilting :o)

What a nice boss…flowers, lunch? I am sure you will gain some stamina once you get back into the routine. You probably didn’t sleep well the night before either. Hang in there. Your brain will get all the routines, procedures, names and such learned and then you will be ready to tackle things like dinner, too.
I have always thought OZ was cute. Lucky for you, they didn’t.

I have started waking right before my hubby’s alarm goes off. It is freaking killing me to get up this early! I don’t know how he does it other than he is used to it.
I hope you are able to have a “Harmonious” playmate for Ozzie soon. She sounds wonderful!

Nicole, can you share what type of business you work at? I am sure you will be in the swing of things before too long.

Yeah work. That scares me..
And two dogs… I have two dogs and all they do is sleep all day. They don’t romp and play together really. They used to get into trouble though. Twice the trouble.. this is where I’m a ruiner.. I love both but wouldn’t do 2 again.
Happy shoe wearing!

Well there he is our cute little Ozzie! Making himself all comfy as can be on his own. I did have to gulp at the mention of a sister for Ozzie. Could be double trouble or maybe just double the fun.
Happy to hear you are enjoying your new job so much. I never did get used to the getting up early part, but getting out amongst other big people is a good thing! Have a wonderful week!

Good luck with getting Harmony. My only piece of advice is to put a lock on your shoe closet!

Poor Ozzie, I hope he can adjust well to his new routine. The fact that your co-workers took you to lunch is a good sign that they are organized and that they all get along. Sounds like you are in a good place.

You’ll get use to the schedule, but I know what you mean, it is hard to regroup! Wow, now that’s a nice work environment when they treat you so wonderful the first day! Flowers and lunch—can’t be bad at all!
The worst job I ever had was with 5 women in a tiny space that I referred to as the “wolverine den”. LOL! No kidding. They were the nastiest women I’ve ever worked with. I usually get along with everyone! No matter how hard I tried, they didn’t like my intrusion into their world when I was hired! Enjoy this new path and Ozzie will appreciate you more than ever when you get home!

I have been working full time for 13 years now but I remember going back to work full time and sleeping in a chair once I got home quite a few times before I adjusted to it.

it’ll be better soon. you’ll find your rhythm and routine and i’ll be you’ll even find time in the sewing room.

When I went back to work after a long time off I used to come home, change clothes. and hit the bed for a nap for 20-30 minutes until dinner was ready and hubby woke me up. Of course we were living with my Mom at the time, to help after my dad died, and she fixed dinner. It was exhausting, but it eventually got better.

I love your blog and ozzie! Having had terriers –scottie, airdale, fox, and now a soft coated wheaten terrier (Archie) I know what characters they are and the trouble they can easily get into.
Is Ozzie a Welsh terrier? We are looking for a companion for Archie and think a Welsh terrier might be a good choice as they are both about the same size.

You’ll be just fine…you’ll get into the routine and you’ll be dandy. You are so right there is not another dog that the breeder could have that would be more handsome than Ozzie. Keep us posted on Ozzie and Harmony!
