The Fat Goose would be me of course. Where did these four new pounds come from I ask you? I have been working hard getting my holiday decorations out, and I am pretty sure I have missed at least a couple of meals. Go figure. I need to get a grip on it though, and get them off fast. Four pounds can turn into eight and the eight into sixteen in a blink of an eye. Now that is scary.
Anyway, I thought I would share a few photos of some of my favorite nooks and crannies. I was going to adopt a philosophy of Less Is More this year, but my husband of all people, just won’t hear of it. He wants every single item we own that is Christmassy to be put out. Box loads of stuff we have collected over the 30-some years of our marriage. Americana stuff that was big back in the 80’s, china rocking horse nick-nacks, the snowman collection, the Santas carved out of driftwood that seemed cute back in 1975…You get the picture. I get tired of decorations after a few seasons and am all for tossing them out and getting something new. I am real good at the getting something new part each year, but DH just won’t let me get rid of anything. One of these years we are going to have to rent a second home during the holidays so we can display all our decorations.
The photo at the top is a Mark Roberts fairy. I love him because he is just all tangled up in that garland of glass balls. The little stack of presents next to him is by Mark Roberts as well. The tree is one I picked up a shop called Cover Story in Los Altos, CA. I just want to say that my entire house is now covered with glitter and I have at least three spots of glitter on my face that I believe may be permanent.
This is another Mark Roberts fairy. My mom bought one for each of my sisters and I a few weeks before she passed away in January 2004. The following December we each had a box to open that contained our fairy, and it seemed like Mom was still with us, giving great presents. Look, there’s me taking a picture reflected in my mirror tree. These mercury glass things were something I got last year. The spikey looking do-dads are silver ornaments turned upside down into a mercury glass cup and held upright by a candle ring decoration.
I have loads of these decorations to share, so look for more photos to come over the next few weeks. The kids are coming this weekend and bringing a Christmas tree for us to decorate! I am experimenting with exotic pizza recipes lately and plan to serve them a pizza made from goat cheese and smoked salmon. Not sure how it will go with our Christmas Cosmos, but it seems festive. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Fun decorations. I need to get out some of our decorations and put away the pumpkins. Maybe this weekend. I know it would give me some new energy.

You’ve introduced me to Mark Roberts fairies. Now I’ll have to go find some! What a lovely thing your mother did.

Oh, how fun! I’ll be looking forward to your upcoming decoration posts. Love the Christmas quilt and your humility block — you’re too funny!

They are absolute works of art, Nicole! What a lovely story about your fairy, too. I have never heard of Mark Roberts, so I’m very happy to be introduced to his work. Thank you!!

Lovely fairies!! Such nice decorations. I am inclined to do less is more too, this year. Don’t worry about the four pounds, my weight just fluctuated 5 pounds in one day! Now that just can’t be right!!
