Christmas Block Give Away

Img_0125

As promised, I am posting today about my 32 orphaned Christmas blocks.  These blocks are what are left over from my Return to Sender quilt top after I decided to eliminate them in favor of using mostly blocks with a high degree of contrast in the block fabrics (black/cream, red/cream, green/cream).

These leftover blocks are made up of fabric combinations with lower contrast (black/red, red/green, black/green).  The blocks measure 8 1/2 inches unfinished, 8 inches finished.  They are accurately pieced and trimmed, and most of my corners turned out nice and sharp.

It would just be too sad if these blocks went to waste and never got made into a quilt or a table topper or *something*.  What I propose to do is to have an Orphan Christmas Block Give Away on my blog.  There must be someone out there who would be happy to give these blocks a home!

So friends, if you have been lurking, now is the time to step up and speak out!   Here is your chance to adopt some blocks and make them into something worthwhile!  Comment to today’s post if you are interested in owning these 32 blocks and I will have a drawing next Wednesday and post the winner the following day.

PS:  Check out Nancy’s version of the Envelope block on her blogsite Blogging, Near Philadelphia.  It is stunning.

  1. Sign me up. I am sure I could give those orphans a home. By the way, I love the quilt and don’t think it’s too busy.

  3. These blocks are wonderful and would work well for the quilts I make and give to Forntier Missions in the fall. Your quilt turned out wonderful and yes you are right, you have to make a Christmas quilt this time of year to have it done to use at Christmas time. Count me in on the drawing.

  5. How sweet of you to give the orphan blocks away. This is a sure way of know who lurks. I had seen Nancy’s version back when she blogged about it. I was amazed that they were Japanese fabrics (Daiwabo taupe fabrics). I never would have guessed! Nice pattern. Amazing how a fabric will change the look of a pattern. Happy quilting!

  27. Well, of course, one would be silly to say “no” to such lovely blocks. Wednesday evening I was the proud recipient of my good friend’s excess Christmas fabric, so those would be a marvelous addition.
    Count me in.

  31. Well I have to confess I’m one of those lurkers who comes by and reads often, but doesn’t comment. So here’s my first comment. I think your Christmas quilt turned out beautifully, and like Darlene, what the heck I’m sure I could turn those blocks into a beaty of a quilt for someone else.
