I know this looks pretty random, but I did whip up a few Christmas gifts yesterday. Three pillow cases for a couple of nephews and a niece. Cozy flannel for the guys and a Parisian print for the gal. I am really digging these pillow cases for a quick and easy last minute gift!
Have you all heard of "The Elf on the Shelf"? Someone gave one of them to us for Eva to enjoy, hoping it would become a new family tradition. The idea is the elf turns up every day before Christmas, in a new spot each day. He supposedly spies on the children in the family, and will report to Santa if the kids are naughty or nice. Hmmm. I have to admit not to be terribly possitively disposed to a little sneak who is on hand in my home with the sole purpose of ratting out my grandchild to Santa.
However, this is supposed to be a fun thing, right? So, the first order of business, after introducing the little rat fink guy to the kid, is to have the child give the elf a name. Eva, ever perceptive, named him "Michael", after the naughtiest boy in her preschool class. That kid has instincts, I tell you.
Thus far, he has turned up in a couple of different spots each morning since joining our household, and has had nothing negative to report to Santa in regard to Eva's behavior. The jury is still out if he will be embraced as a family tradition, but at least Ozzie hasn't chewed his leg off. Yet.

Isn’t it a sad thing when it’s the dog we have to beware of being bad than our grandchild?? My dog want to eat all the baby toys I bought for Christmas!!

Our 7 month old doxie would chew his leg off, no doubt. Did you see Last Man Standing last Friday night? The entire show was about the exact same issue, the elf on the shelf, it was cute. You have a wonderful holiday break with your family!

We also have the little elf in our house for the grandkids and have to say they are watching it very closely. Not sure if they believe the story but they are being careful now! Enjoy your Christmas holidays and hope they are merry!

Still chuckling here at the idea of Miss E knowing (at her tender age) who is naughtiest!! We all grew up with “you’d better not cry, you’d better not shout” etc. so there was some spying and veiled threats going on then!
I’d heard of The Elf on the Shelf, but didn’t suspect he was a rat fink. Your elf does seem to have something in mind that’s making him smirk a bit!
Cheers for the quick and pleasing pillowcases!
Hugs!

You cracked me up this morning…’rat fink’ is right! When I taught primary grades being a tattler was frowned upon by both classmates & teacher! Now it’s being promoted?? I’m not sure how I feel about this little so-called ‘elf!’ & I have to agree that Little E may have hit on the perfect name! She obviously gets the concept & probably will make it to Christmas on her own without the little stool pigeon on the shelf narc’ing her out to Santa!!! Perhaps Ozzie is plotting to rid your home of the pest? (would that be a bad thing?!) Merry Christmas!

Feeding the elf rat fink to Ozzie would not be nice…but it would be a fitting end for the little creep!

Oh Nicole! How fun! One of my email friends had an Elf on the Shelf last year and he was the most mischievous little thing. She would pose him doing all sorts of naughty things every day. Like spilling open a bag of mini marshmallows, turning the laundry basket over, etc. Her 5 & 7-year-old daughters LOVED him!

I like the elf! My college age son and I had fun with this idea. One of us would move the elf. When the other person spotted it, then he would move it. There was no spying for Santa going on. We really enjoyed this. It didn’t even have to be Christmas.

I’ve heard of the ‘Elf on the shelf’ from people with school-age children, and I’m really glad it wasn’t a fad when my kids were young. The concept is a bit creepy to me (someone’s always watching you…) I also think it’s creepy that the elf doesn’t have feet…or has Ozzie already gotten to him?!
