Still working on Courthouse Steps blocks here. I have made 49 out of 80, so I am more than half way there. I am enjoying the mix of fabrics and the interplay of the lights and darks. And since it really is a quilt made from leftovers, there are lots of memories to revisit from other quilt projects from the past.
On Saturday, I was going stir crazy, not having been out of my town since Christmas. I begged my husband to drive me an hour away to the nearest mall, where we wandered around doing absolutely nothing. He was a good sport about traipsing around after me, even though we had no specific purpose in mind. I did have it in the back of my mind to go to Macy's, where I was pretty sure the January "white" sale would be going on. I need new towels, and definitely do not want to pay full price.
When we got to Macy's there were sale signs everywhere in the towel department. Great sale, about half price off the regular cost of most towels. However, on closer inspection, all the signs said "Reserve", which meant you could pick out your towels, have them rung up at the sale price, and not be able to have them until you returned after January 31 to pick them up. I am sorry, I drove an hour each way to go to your store, I am not coming back on January 31. So Macy's gets my money two weeks before I get my stuff? Is that supposed to be some kind of incentive to get folks in the department store two times so maybe they will end up buying more goods? Sorry, that didn't work for me.

I would have been really annoyed with that sale tactic too! I also need to drive that far to shop. I saw an ad for Amazon that said that their Amazon Basics towels were great. I try to buy local but sometimes Amazon just works!

I probably would have walked out of Macy’s, too. I hate that stuff. Although I probably would have stopped and asked a clerk if they could ship them to me for free considering I made the trip today, maybe also mentioning that Amazon could have them to me in two days for free. It’s like the stores that remain don’t understand that their strongest remaining card is that you can have something NOW instead of two days from now.

I agreed with you completely, however, I have three Macy’s shopping centers not far from me. They all have done well in past years (before Amazon), but now one has now closed and the Macy store closest to me looks like it will close down too. Macy’s may be in need of the revenue to keep a float and to purchase future items to sell. With many consumers purchasing thru Amazon our local shopping centers will die, I am seeing it with two of my local shopping centers, one ten minutes away and the other one twenty minutes away. The third shopping center is also twenty minutes away from me (across the river in the next State) and forty minutes from the Macy’s store (in my state) that has already closed.

I have to drive about 110 miles one way to a mall. There are no Macy’s in this part of the country so it’s the first I’ve heard about that ‘sales tactic’. NOT good! Do you have a Target closer by? I’ve purchased bath towels there a couple of times in the past couple of years & am very pleased with the quality.

Just a suggestion – would you be able to order the towels from Macy’s online perhaps – especially now that you have been to the store and seen something you liked? Still annoying though!

I never heard abut that sale tactic and would be totlly annoyed by it no matter how long I need to drive there. If I pay for something I wanna have it now and if I’m willing to wait I’ll buy it online. Simple as that. I don’t think this will work out for the shop.

I have not heard of that before at any department store. I would have been irritated too. I have bought some lovely towels at Kohls and Target. Recently I bought towels at Marshalls and Homegoods and was exceptionally pleased. Especially after I washed them. With them though it is feast or famine with what they have in stock at the time you get there. Target and Kohls are consistent. In the past couple years I have become a big fan of Kohls.

Check online. Macy’s usually offers free shipping for orders over $100. My husband buys most his clothes that way. ;p

I haven’t bought much at Macy’s, but the last item I bought an item from online Macy’s for my daughter’s Christmas took me 5 MONTHS to get exchanged and the money situation straightened out. They tried to CHARGE her for the item, then they sent it, but didn’t refund me the difference, then tried to charge ME for the item all over again. It was a mess, and I vowed then to never again buy anything from Macy’s, online or in person.
