Crop Circles: A Finish!!!

IMG_2033

Well my friends, it is a finish! Crop Circles, a pattern by Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company, made with Australian designer Jen Kingwell's new Gardenvale fabric collection.  I admit, I was calling this the Quilt of a Thousand Steps because there was so much to making it.  Lots and lots of prep work before a block could be put together.  It involved some machine appliqué, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  The pattern instructions were fantastic, and I did not deviate one iota from them.  I tell you, I don't know if it was pre-starching the Dickens out of the fabric or what, but every single measurement and seam was dead on.  I don't think I have ever made a quilt that was so precisely correct in every detail.

I joined Sinta of Pink Pincushion in this sew along, and you must hop over to her site and see her version of this marvelous quilt pattern.  It was such fun to sew with Sinta, and our emails back and forth with encouraging tips was such a hoot.

My daughter has already told me she hopes to see this quilt under the Christmas tree in a box with her name on it.  I don't know…I really like it!  I am very proud of completing this project.

  1. You should be “proud”. Gorgeous quilt and “fine” job. Love it myself, and I know it won’t be wrapped up for me. Love your blogging. Keep quilting.

  16. Love your quilt and congrats on finishing it! I’ve caught up on a few swe-alongs and already made both the June and the July Schnibbles pattern (and they are almost done:-) but now Green Tea and Sweet Beans is again #1 on my sewing list.

  19. Bravo for another finish! How could your daughter NOT want that fabulous quilt for her very own?? You could consider it her Christmas gift & be proud of getting your holiday shopping under way early! Win-win for you both! 😉

  22. Your final comment says it all—you have made a lot of quilts! To still be able to say “I am so proud of this quilt” really captures what keeps us sewing…when that challenge pays off and we enjoy each labored step along the way to a masterpiece! Congrats–it’s a keeper.

  25. Maybe by Christmas time you’ll rethink things, but I’m sure I would not want to give up such a beauty! Carrie’s patterns are all very precise, but I agree with the amount of prep necessary for some. Thank goodness other people whose brains are bigger figure out all that darn MATH….

  31. Woo hoo! What a beauty! And while some of that precision might be due to the terrific pattern and all the starch, I’m sure most of the good results are because you did such a great job. It’s inspiring the see the results, and to know that even a quilt of a thousand steps can be completed, and quickly, too.
You give away lots of quilts. Maybe this one should be for you, at least for now.

  34. Nicole, I love all the quilts you do! I especially loved your Posh Baskets quilt from several years ago. When I saw it I was inspired to track down some of the Posh fabric to make a quilt from. Unfortunately, it was one of those UFOs that sat for a long time. I now want to finish it up and would love to make the outside border wider than I had originally planned, but I can’t find that border fabric on the internet anywhere. I was wondering if you had any of the mocha floral that you used for your Posh Basket border leftover that you would be willing to sell me. Or if any of your readers know where I could get any more of that fabric – Posh by Chez Moi for Moda #15880-17 in Mocha. Thanks for your help and for inspiring me over the years.

  37. I couldn’t wait to see this quilt finished and I LOVE IT!!!! I can see why your daughter wants it! I really like that it only has strips running down the sides and not the top and bottom. I can’t believe how quickly you got this top together!
