Decisions to Make

I know this is supposed to be a quilting blog for the most part, but it is also a journal of what is going on in my life.  Right now, what is going on in my life is some labor intensive stunt sewing, and some redecorating of my house.

I can't share any pics of the stunt sewing, but never fear, it is coming along splendidly!  I worked in the time to make a few more blocks of Beach Cottage this weekend, and will continue to do that this coming week.  I have 30 out of 80 blocks made, and they are super cute.  I will share the photos of that project tomorrow.

So, this weekend, my husband and I met with a landscape gardener and a general contractor.  The yard is going to get a major overhaul, which is mostly trimming and weeding and replanting things that we have managed to kill off.  The yard is pretty straight forward.

The house is another story.  My goodness, this contractor had all sorts of fancy ideas for us to consider.  Before we knew it, the bathroom fix had gone from replacing two cracked tiles to putting an a whole new tumbled marble floor with accents.  The main things he will do is paint the exterior and paint all the cabinetry in the kitchen and master bath.  I will be doing lots of updates on how the progress is going, so I hope you will bear with me.

The most immediate issue is to pick paint colors.  Oh my.  You think that sounds easy?  Ha.

Hope you all had marvelous weekends!

  1. I am looking forward to your remodeling updates! We just had our kitchen cabinets painted ivory. They were drab, dirty and worn oak. Love our bright new look. I’m sure you will too!

  3. WHen we finished our basement a year or so ago I got tired of running to the store for paint chips with a baby in tow so I bought a Benjamin Moore fandeck…which has been very helpful. Now we are about 2/3 thru our main floor with painting…it is such a nice feeling you will love!

  5. Your quilts are proof that you have an eye for color so there is little doubt you will have any difficulty in choosing paint colors. What continues to amaze is the amount of work you get accomplished. Just one of the projects on your list is enough for most of us to do. Anxious to watch the progress.

Can you guide me to the pattern “Around the Block” that you have in your photo album. I love it!

  9. Have fun with all of the updates and changes.
I may have missed it, but what is “stunt” sewing? I understand you are making blocks you cannot share as they’re for a book or something. The use of the word “stunt” puzzles me.
In thinking of making changes to your home, I whole-heartedly recommend the books by Sarah Susanka about The Not So Big House and other similar titles. She writes about making good use of the space you have, how small additions can make a world of difference, and using quality touches rather than building large. Our library has most of her books and perhaps your library does, too. Happy imagining!

  11. Choosing a paint color can be a little scary. The young lady at Home Depot picked my last color for me which was really scary since she had a big bar pierced in her lower lip. But darned if she didn’t pick the perfect color for the room I was doing at the time!

  13. If I were going to retile a bathroom floor, I would put in radiant heating. Had it once and it was WONDERFUL.
