Easy Angle or Folded Corner Clipper?

  IMG_1788

I recently learned about a ruler called the Folded Corner Clipper, a handy tool for when you need to  sew squares on corners.  There is a quarter inch seam allowance and ruler markings that when all in alignment, give you very accurate blocks.  You line up the ruler with your pieces of fabric, and use your rotary cutter to trim away the excess fabric.  Then you use your quarter inch foot on your sewing machine and stitch away.

I ordered one immediately of course.  I always do that.

And when I got it, I thought "Hmmm".  Maybe I already had something that did that exact same thing.  I tell you, sometimes you can just shop at home and save yourself some money.

And corner clipping with the Easy Angle ruler.

After working with both rulers for a few hours, I have to say for corner clipping, the markings on the Corner Clipper are slightly easier to read.  I do love this method of sewing corner squares.  Instead of marking with a pen, sewing, then clipping off the corner, with the Corner Clipper (or Easy Angle) you eliminate the marking step and just cut and sew.

The Corner Clipper is a terrific little ruler.  But if you already have an Easy Angle ruler, possibly you don't need to purchase both.

  1. I have both of these rulers and agree that the Corner Clipper is easier to use. The Corner Clipper is my most favorite ruler.

  4. Thanks for the comparison of these tools. I seem to make do with the tools I have always used and have many various tools that I never use.
We got less snow than was forecast but still there’s probably 8″ out there and that’s enough. Have already been out to spread a wild bird seed buffet on the porch wall capstones! You should see the bazillion bird footprints in the snow on that porch.
It’s a good day to stay tucked in and sew.
    Hugs!

  7. I use my regular 6.5″ square ruler, lining the 1/4″ line on one edge along the diagonal of the square to be trimmed. Does the same thing. Corner Clipper likely to be easier to read though.

  10. Funny… I just ordered the Corner Clipper yesterday after finding I was having a hard time getting my lower corner just right with my Easy Angle. I went back to drawing lines instead. Guess I’m all about easy to read. Thanks for helping me feel better about my purchase!

  13. i have the corner clipper. i bought it last year to use for little 1 inch squares. i have mixed emotions about it. i had some problems with the bias edge getting stretched out of shape. it wasn’t on every single one. it was just on some. go figure?
little 1 inch on the diagonal lines/seams are a pain in the butt. ;p

  16. I am enjoying the Corner Pop ruler I recently purchased from Studio 180 for the same purpose. Check it out: http://www.studio180design.net/shop/product/corner-pop/
You cut the corner off your base shape using the ruler. Then instead of the corner square, you stitch on a slightly oversized triangle. The whole piece gets trimmed afterwards but I like that it comes out perfect and you don’t have the waste of cutting off so much of that corner square.
