I have a couple of new projects to share with you this week. It recently came to my attention that a year-long sew-along started a couple of years ago called Etoiles Rouges. The block-of-the-week program offered 49 blocks, all Ohio Star variations. The program ended but was so popular, it has been offered again. For $25 you can get all the block patterns, work at your own pace, and make this gorgeous quilt.
I spent my $25 and got the whole year's worth of patterns, plus tutorials for making some of the more difficult blocks.
Feel free to enlarge this image to get a better look at the block patterns. Most of the blocks are pretty easy, but some of them are very challenging. That one on the left in my photo above had mitered corners. I mastered them, but I sure did need to take my time! What a striking and unusual block.
I have a great French General stash on hand, and I bet a lot of you do as well. What a wonderful project to use up all that fabric! I am in no rush to finish this quilt, but in spite of that, I made five blocks this weekend! There is a Facebook group where supposedly people share their blocks, but I cannot seem to get the attention of the site administrator to approve my request to join it.
Let me know in the comments if any of you have made this gorgeous quilt, or if you might like to sew along with me. We can compare notes on some of the trickier blocks and encourage one another!
Here's my girl, after receiving her On A Roll award. It was pajama day at school, that is why she is dressed like that. It was a fun (but long) program honoring the kids who have worked hard to achieve a good grade point average.
Hope you all had a great weekend!

That is a gorgeous quilt! You are off to a great start. I am nearing the end of two quilts made with French General fabrics.
I sewed the binding to the front of one and will hand stitch it down Wednesday at our guild Sit and Sew. The other one is a block of the month. I kept up the first seven months then put it aside to make a quilt for my sons family. I love the pattern but a little tedious with a lot of 1/8 inch measurements. I will finish it though with lots of left over scraps.

I still love French General fabrics – your blocks are gorgeous. Such a cute story about E and her On a Roll award – congratulations to her!

Love your devotion to French General. I have made several quilts containing FG blocks in it, and one whole quilt with nothing but. Love her fabric and have one assortment waiting for a new quilt. I grew up in N. NJ where sleepy time meant heavy flannel pj’s and a heavy bathrobe, nothing ever cute enough to wear outside anywhere. Did often wear the pj bottoms under my daytime pants to go shovel snow though, very cold work. Happiness to Eva for her dedicated work and yours as well. You are a wonderful part of her support system.

French General fabrics are so beautiful! You’re on your way to a great quilt with those first blocks! Eva looks very proud of her Honor Roll certificate…she’s definitely ‘on a roll’! 👏👏👏

Now I want shark pjs….I wonder if they make them in adult sizes? Congratulations to Eva.
Um, I’ll send you a picture of the last 2 quilts I made with my FG fabric. I’ve been trying to use up all the scraps. I then got jazzed to make a WWII themed quilt by Minick and Simpson so I had to dig through boxes for charm packs of FG fabric. Turns out I’ve got a dozen! various lines.

I love the French General fabrics, and I love your quilt. You know, for that challenging block with the mitered corners you could have made all four corners from half-square triangle blocks then there would be no mitering. But you did good.
Again congrats to Eva.
