Evangeline Nicole

She's here!  Our dear sweet Baby E has arrived!  Sara is holding her for the first time.  She had just looked into her baby's eyes and said  "You are Evangeline Nicole, and I am your mother".  I cried like a baby, and will again whenever I remember it.

Can't think of many happier days than this one.  Sara had a long and difficult labor, as Evangeline (Eva for short) was born face up (posterior position).  All is well now, and Eva is learning to nurse, with all appearances indicating that she already has it figured out.  Smart girl.  She weighed 7 pounds and 5 ounces, and was 21 inches long.  The difficult delivery caused some bruising on her head, so she will be wearing a little cap for awhile. 

Sara labored for 18 hours in the hospital, and for 11 hours at home before going to the hospital.  She pushed for two and a half hours before the baby was born.  That is a l.o.n.g time.  I got to be there for the entire procedure, which was one of the most treasured gifts of my lifetime.

We are all pretty tired right now, but floating on air.  I have dreamed about this day for many many years, and my expectations were all surpassed.

When my adopted daughter gave birth to her boys, she asked me to be there, explaining that I wasn’t there when she was born so she wanted me there when my grandsons were born! I still cry when I think about it and the boys are 20 and 18!!!

    Sara’s labor sounds almost like mine. Caleb was 7 pounds and 8 ounces, 21.5″ long. I pushed for 2.5 hours, and he had a bit of head coning.

  143. Oh, you will love her to death! My granddaughter will be turning 1 on Aug 3. Sara’s birthing experience is almost a replica of my daughter’s, 39 hrs of labor and 3 hrs pushing. I give them both lots of credit. My son-in-law cried at how amazing my daughter was. It brings tears to my eyes as well. Enjoy your time with her. There’s nothing like it. My favorite saying is “I just want to eat her up!”
