Eventide Tuesday–Last Post ‘Til the Big Reveal!

001
Woo Hoo, the end is in sight.  The light at the end of the tunnel and all that.

I have my center section of nine blocks all sewn together.  I have my two inner borders of red hour glass blocks sewn up.  I just have to sew the two outside rows of blocks, sew the five sections together, make the pieced border, and I am DONE with this quilt top!  I will be finished with this by next week and be displaying my big reveal on Tuesday, April 5.

It's a good thing I have that extra week, or I would never have made this deadline.  I am so grateful to all of you who have been participating in the sew along, or I probably would not have had the stamina to construct this quilt at this point in my life.

Congratulations to all of you who have completed this project already!  Do check out Thelma's blog for a roster of the participants and links to their blogs (if they have one).

In other news, I spent my day off doing some sewing.  I drove up to Sunnyvale to attend my UFO at Eddie's Quilting Bee.   It was so good to see my girls, and I always get so much support from them.  I found myself pouring my heart out to Bev, the group leader, about all the trials that have beset us this past year.  She wisely pointed out all the blessings I have, and assured me that things always change and better times will be ahead.  I tell you, women friends are way better than paying a therapist $150 an hour.

Plus, an added bonus is that you can sew while you get your therapy.  I finished all the blocks for my lavender/aqua Central Park baby quilt!  Hope to get that together next weekend.  And on the way home, I dropped off the black and white "All Wrapped Up" quilt at my quilters, and found that it will cost around $60 for the quilting!

  1. Congratulations Nicole, it is beautiful and not long now to the finish line!! Would love to have joined but it was not possible, but have so enjoyed everyones progress each week. Is it still raining? That is what our past Spring and Summer had been, maybe you are in for the same.
We did get a handful of sunny, warm days for our Vitamin D LOL! We feel like we have gone from Spring to Autumn and missed Summer altogether!

  3. Nicole it is just gorgeous. You should at this point very proudly pat yourself on the back – you really have made one heck of a beautiful quilt!
Life throws many things at us before we’ve done – and sometimes good things grow out of the bad times. I had cancer surgery a few years back and what do I remember about it – the horrors of the treatment? No, what I remember is the kindness of the nurses and doctors and how great my friends were. These bad times will pass and you have a little ray of sunshine waiting for you later this year.
As you quite rightly say, with good friends, who needs therapists.

  5. Applause! Eventide is lovely and you’ll enjoy it forevermore!
You had such an accomplishfull day! “Accomplishfull” is a made up family word meaning a day full of accomplishments, of course!
Well done on getting the blocks for Central Park completed, for getting All Wrapped Up to your quilters, and for unloading so much worry-baggage that you’ve been carrying. Good friends are indeed better than a therapist!
    Big hugs!

  11. Eventide is stunning. I love all the contrast. At some point, I really want to do this one. Things will work out for you. I know they will. Life is full of changes. I know when that baby comes you will be so full of joy the rest of the “stuff” will take on a very different perspective. Best wishes Nicole.

  13. Beautiful! And yes we all need friends that we can pour our heart out to. My BFF lives over 1000 miles away, but she is as close as a phone call. And I am so amazed at the price of the quilting. There is NO ONE who does quilting in our area for less than $100 and UP!

  15. How nice to have a girlfriend to talk to and get some great feedback. Sometimes it is hard to see all the positives in our life.

  19. I just read your post and thought “there’s no way I can finish my quilt in a week.” Then I looked at the calendar and we have 2 weeks left. Don’t scare me like that!!
    Yours looks wonderful, Nicole!

Sometimes just the act of sharing out loud can bring relief to us and can bring a new sense of perspective.

  25. Thanks for the perspective on therapy vs. quilting therapy! Your Eventide is beautiful. Perhaps it looks so restful and inviting due to the therapy you are getting? Which ever, it works. I am ready to do the inner borders myself, so I’m not to far behind… 2 weeks? Easie peasie!

  27. I agree with everyone, it is just BEEEUTIFUL!!! 🙂 Lots of work too! Your side dark boarders look great, so glad you decided to include them. How nice to find words of encouragement as you quilted, what a special blessing! 🙂

  29. Wow! Love the quilt and can hardly wait to see it finished. Way to hang in there:) It’s a good thing you have few months before your grandbaby comes so you have some time to quilt and finish up some things for the baby!
