The creepy crows are making another appearance on the living room mantel. I just love those guys, a Pottery Barn find of a few years back. I may love them, but the rest of the family, not so much. I think they add just the right autumnal touch to my seasonal decorating scheme.
I came home over the weekend to find that my husband and son in law had hung the large painting over the fireplace. About a foot too high. Oh well. It isn't going to be moved now, after the death defying effort it took to hang it. Evidently it took the two of them two hours, two ladders and a lot of sweat and tears to get that big thing installed up there, and no one is hearing one word about moving down a smidge. Why do men just forge ahead with hanging things when they KNOW they need their wife on hand to direct things?
The living room is the "adult" area of the house, where we spend most evenings. It is open to the kitchen and has such nice high ceilings. Where are the quilts you ask? Oh, they will be making an appearance, never fear!
I've been having loads of fun pulling out fall decorations and playing around making little vignettes. Oh, I am so grateful to have a house I can decorate again!

Love seeing glimpses of your new home. Fall decorating is so much fun so I should get my autumn things out. It sure feels like fall here today!

Men ALWAYS hang things way too high. Since we are an Army family and have moved over 13 times, you would think that my husband would have learned by now. He HAS learned not to hang anything w/o my input, at least! I’m glad you are back blogging! Did you move from one town to another?

You did a nice job of pulling things together with your tall accessories on the mantel. I love the crows.

Yes, the tall accessories on the mantel fill in the space well making it less obvious that the picture was hung too high. It’s looks like you have lots of wall space to displaying your quilts!

Looking good Nicole! You are on a roll. When are you busting out the Halloween quilt? I have been thinking about mine lately but still waiting.

I love the space AND I really like those crows.
I had not commented on your return yet, so welcome back! I can see why you had to take a break. Did you move to another area locally or was this move a big one. How is Grandpa? E?
Are you going to take us through a little tour of the new place? How are you feeling about the house? My sister has decided to spread her wings and fly away to her own home (we bought a house together in 06), so she has been house hunting and finally found a place she likes. I think she likes the location more than the space but she is looking forward to making it her own. I think my own move will not be long in coming, maybe next spring.
Good to have you back!

Glad you are back. Enjoy your blog.
Could you hang a table runner or something else like that to fill the space under the picture? And coordinate with your mantle scape.
Just a wild thought!

What a beautiful pic of your living room!! When I saw it I said, Aaaaah! It looks gorgeous. It’s so much fun when you have room to decorate and add your little do dads around, isn’t it? I think the pic looks great….most men have no idea how to decorate..they just think they do. Looking forward to more pics of your new digs and of course….your quilts!

I know well the woes of a husband who hangs pictures too high! Your home is beautiful, and I like your crows.

I love the picture. . .and since it is too high that just gives you more reason to have taller items on the mantel to bring down the picture.
My DH has taken it upon himself to “help” me with hanging pictures and things. . . and then put them in places that I would not have put them — or put the “wrong” ones in the “right” spot. I thought he was unique — kind of glad to hear that he isn’t!! LOL
The house looks lovely.

Good to see you again! Love your new house! You have a real flair for deco.! I too bought Midwinter Reds in a layer cake. It’s a beautiful line but now I have to figure out what to do with it!

Good to see things are moving right along. The picture over my fireplace isn’t hanging–it’s leaning! It looks fine.
Maybe, after a length of time you can lean the picture and hang something else in the spot they worked so hard to place. In time…

Oh! Love the autumn decorations and the photos of your wonderful new home!!
The living room is beautiful and your arrangement of furniture makes best use of the space. Well done!
I hear your angst about the large picture that was hung too high and that the men went ahead without your input. Sigh!!
Hummmm … perhaps you can find a narrow horizontal picture, painting, or architectural fragment to fit the space under the wonderful (but too highly hung) painting over the mantel? That might be easier than getting the painting moved downward!
Hugs!

Everything looks great Nicole and in my house I am the only one who appreciates creepy crows!

another question I have is: why do men INSIST on hanging everything so high!? My husband just does not see how much nicer the pictures/stitcheries look when they are hung at eye level. Oy!
personally, I LOVE those crows! The room looks beautiful…just need a quilt or two to finish it. ;p

I haven’t met a man yet that doesn’t hang picture way too high.

What a beautiful new house! I’ll bet you’re having lots of fun decorating to make it ‘your own!’

Ha ha men always do this don’t they?! We have a huge mirror over our mantelpiece and it is ever so slightly at an angle (or “on the p*ss” as we say in England- meaning it looks slightly drunk). My other half genuinely can’t see it but it annoys me every time I look at it!

It is beautiful. One of these days the large picture will be taken down and dusted, then you can have them lower it a bit. 🙂

Welcome back! I have missed reading your blog this summer. I love your new home and can’t wait to see more.

Maybe it isn’t that the picture is hung to high, maybe it’s the wrong piece of art! I think that’s a fabulous wall for you to be able to showcase an array of the pieces you will create, changing out for seasons. You should be able to create new quilts and standardize how they hang so it’s a 10-minute-haul-of-the-ladder to redecorate for the season!

Your living room area looks lovely! Are you still living in “gold country”? I hope you are enjoying your new surroundings:)

The living room is beautiful, full of light and who doesn’t love high ceilings!
The fall decorations on the mantel are perfect and even though crows can be a little scary sometimes, they make excellent seasonal decor.
