I spent the day puttering around the house, going to the plant nursery and bringing out my spring quilts. There is a fresh lovely scent in the air that promises Spring is really on its way. Every February I am thankful that I live in California, when the plum trees blossom, the daffodils start coming up, we get a few days where the temperatures are in the high 60s, and the rest of the country is still shoveling snow! Won’t be long and I’ll be dragging out my sandals and cropped jeans!Sorry all my cold climate friends, I don’t mean to rub it in.
This little quilt is a sweet one. The nine patch and quarter square triangle blocks took no time at all to piece together, but the appliqued border was another story. Not trusting my machine applique skills, I decided to give needle turn hand applique a try. Some work on it would be achieved and I would put the project away. Pretty soon, it was put away more than it was being worked on. Three years after I began the top I finally finished the hand work. Don’t look too close; my applique skills are a bit primitive. If you would like to see how a pro does it right, check out Darlene’s current project. She is working on a lovely Bunny Hill Designs applique quilt.

Hi! Love the quilt! I made the same pattern as a store quilt a few years ago. Yours is much prettier than mine. I had to use fabric that the store wanted to get rid of so I was limited in my fabric choices. I would like to make another one similar to yours.

Welcome to blogging, and to Q4P! What a sweet little quilt, I just love those. Your leap into hand applique looks pretty good to me – don’t worry!

Welcome to the Q4P ring. It is alway nice to meet a new blogger. Very pretty quilt. It is amazing how something like a simple nine patch with white and a bit of colour can be so pretty and sweet. The applique looks great! And finished is better than perfect.

Well, I’ve been reading through your blog and missed this “pretty” also. What a sweet quilt.
Nicole, thanks so much for the compliment on my hand applique – I’m so touched! I wish I were a pro – still consider myself a beginner. I do love it though.
