I spent Monday cleaning the house and organizing my closet. While I puttered, I kept thinking about making a little table topper for St. Patrick's Day. I knew just the pattern I wanted to use. Roundabout, a fun little Schnibbles pattern by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. I had actually made this pattern last summer and loved it. The fabrics are Salt Box Harvest by Deb Strain for Moda.
It was super fun to make, and I wanted one for myself. The idea I had was to make a smaller version, with just nine blocks, in green fabrics, to use as a St. Patrick's Day table mat for a candle or small vase of flowers. I have a round kitchen table, and like to put some small topper in the center to set off whatever table scape I have going on.
Between vacuming and taking bags of stuff to Goodwill to donate, I rummaged in my fabric stash. I found some pretty greens from, what?, maybe ten years ago. In about an hour and a half I had this:
I guess it is ok. Pretty in its way. But to me, those fabrics look a bit dated. Then I remembered something tucked away in the dresser in my sewing room.
To be continued….

Nice find! Perfect!! I think a mini version of Roundabout will look perfect on your table. I think that’s a great idea. I’m a little light on St. Patty’s Day decor myself.

The ten-year-ago green is still pretty to me! I’m sure Origins will be fabulous, though. That’s a really nice collection.

Those Schnibble patterns are so hard to resist for a quick fun project……makes me want to take the day for one myself.

I love making those Schnibbles patterns. And isn’t it funny how the fabric we LOVED 10 years ago are, well 10 years old 🙂

The light lime greens do look more like a summer day with limeade than shamrock green but I love the fabrics and the Schnibbles pattern! You’re a sewing whirlwind, as usual! Applause!!
I’m sneaking up on a Valentine’s table topper similar to yours but there will be no pieced border.
Hugs!

I’m thinking that roundabout pattern might be perfect for a baby quilt I need to be making in the next little bit. I’d better get on that.
It will be fun to see how your latest last minute project turns out…

Dated??? I really like the first one. I’m sure the second one will be nice too but I don’t think the first one is a bust. I wonder what it would look like surrounded by some blocks from the brighter fabrics?

Love the greens and even though you say they are dated, I think they look great together. They’ll even look good after St. Patrick’s day with their springy colors.

I made a table topper out of that very fabric using the twister ruler. It turned out to be really cute. I’m sure yours will turn out great.

So sweet! It doesn’t exactly shout St. Paddy’s but maybe Happy Spring!
Looking forward to version 2

The springy green table topper will still look lovely – perhaps with your new rose dishes??
Of course the Origins version will be splendiferous!

If you didn’t know those fabrics were 10 years old – would you love it more? I think it looks great!

Dated? I don’t think fabric has an expiration date. If you pay close attention fabric designers just repeat what has been popular in the past. I think you just think it looks dated.
