Oh my gosh, look what I found yesterday. Way up high on a closet shelf there was a project box labeled "Granny Blocks". When I pulled it down I was blown away to discover these quilt blocks made from a
Pam Kitty Morning collection for LakeHouse Fabrics. I must have made these seven years ago. I vaguely recall making them and I may have even sewn some together for a baby quilt for a niece some years ago.
Presently though, I have no idea what to do with them! I could make more blocks, but at this point, I have no idea what the white outer fabric was, so it might not match exactly. Not that big a deal I don't think. I can get pretty close with a current Bella Solid. But what should I do with the blocks? I do not know of anyone who is expecting a baby girl right now. I suppose I could make a baby quilt and keep it on hand for that happy occurrence. Eventually, someone I know will have a baby girl, right?
I wonder why on earth Lakehouse stopped making Pam Kitty Morning fabrics? I recall they were hugely popular, and seriously are way cuter than a lot of other fabrics of this type. Pam has a terrific blog. She has tutorials for fabulous projects and is fun to read. She starts out some of her posts with a photo of a cup of coffee in her garden and saying "It's a PamKittyMorning". She is upbeat and friendly and seems super nice too.
I have a question for you all. Do you think I should separate the blocks with a white lattice? Or do you like the idea of the blocks all looking "connected"?
So, this was a lucky day for me, finding a treasure trove of pretty blocks in gorgeous fabrics. Hope your day was as fortunate!

I plan to sash the blocks and have mini square-in-a-square blocks at their intersections, which will mirror the on-point appearance of the Granny Square blocks. I’m sure whatever you choose will look terrific!

It is super cute! I think it would be great with a little sashing and blue-ish cornerstones, and a blueish border and binding. Piecing the Past just had a QAL called Grandma’s Hearth with similar blocks set on point. Love your colors!!! Let us know what you decide to do!

Making a scrappy Granny is on my List. These are very pretty! I like the idea of sashings- maybe a pink so you don’t have to worry about matching?

Those gorgeous blocks will make a great baby girl’s quilt. And, you’re right! Sooner or later you’ll know someone having a girl & your gift will be ready to go! I think I’d use a similar white for some sashing & maybe a border. Stay well!

If it was mine, I would add lattice strips…mainly because those white half square triangles can be “challenging” to get to line up perfectly to the next block. Lattice strips give you a bit of leeway. Finish it up… it is really pretty and I always love a Granny Square block and would be cute for Valentine’s Day. I also loved Pam Kitty Morning fabrics!! How is your thumb, by the way? Hope you are seeing some improvement!!

I would add lattice strips. I found some blocks a few months ago and I honestly do not remember making them at all !! I must have because I recognize the fabrics I used. I had a boss who died last year at the age of 87, who always said ,, “Don’t get old.” Well, I didn’t listen to him.

What a great find, lucky you! I’d make it up while the iron is hot (so to speak) with a narrow white lattice and small cornerstones, either in red or a coordinating colour.

Really cute. I would add the white lattice with a corner stone of the red or pink. If you want the quilt larger, you could use the white lattice for border with a pink or red scallop. Always loved the Pam Kitty fabric and I’ve wondered too why they stopped making it. Patty Mc

I love the on Point idea! But I would probably use a scrappy mix of the reds and pinks for the sashing. Or find 1 fabric that could with all the fabrics.🙂. then a white border with a colored binding. Depends on how big you want it! And how bright!

what about lattice using a white fabric with either red or pink very small spot., then give the quilt to charity, a raffle prize at Eva’s school or swim club. I’m realising I can’t keep every quilt I make, but enjoy it.Suzanne in Australia

I like the idea of adding simple sashing to these cute blocks. I imagine that sashing will frame each block, give the eye a place to rest & give each block the chance to stand out. So glad your closet decluttering turned up these sweet blocks for you to finish. I often donate my quilts to women’s homeless shelters in my area. Many new mom’s have no family or friends to celebrate the birth of their babies & each mom who receives a baby blanket from someone makes them feel special (just a thought). Whoever receives your quilt will love it.
