Friday Finish–Raspberry Cocoa

IMG_4804

Here is a fun Friday Finish.  This is a little mini quilt called Raspberry Cocoa, designed by Kim Diehl for one of her more recent Simple What Nots Club offerings.  I wasn't a member of the club in the past couple of years, but managed to buy the kit from someone on Etsy.  (It is amazing what you can find if you search!)  The colors are pretty much true in the photo–a bright raspberry pink and a warm cocoa brown.  I was taken by the fun variation on the classic Bear Paw block.

The "paw" is made up of a 3 1/2" half square triangle that you then sew a 1 1/2" square diagonally on the tip of the brown triangle.  I used my Folded Corner Clipper Ruler for that little step with good results.  If you haven't tried this tool for your diagonal corners, you might consider it.  There are tutorials on how to use it on YouTube, which demonstrate better than I can explain.  An Easy Angle ruler would work for this as well.

I found it a bit of a challenge to keep things straight with this quilt, but when I measure it, it is a perfect 27 1/2" square, just like the pattern says it should be.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, whether you are sewing, spending time with your loved ones, or just hanging out!

  7. Love the border. I’ll have to remember to try something like that next time I’m trying to use up some of the leftovers from a quilt top. Happy weekend!

  10. I love the extra triangle on the bear paw. I’ve been wanting to make a bear paw quilt for a long time. I really like what you have made here.

  13. I love pink and brown together. I made a toddler quilt with that combo last year. Secondly, I used a similar tool for a queen size quilt I made that had tiny 1.5″ half square triangles. It was tedious but it turned out! ;p
