Isn't this fabric just the happiest thing you have ever seen? It is Central Park by Kate Spain for Moda. The pattern is Elsie and Paige, Sisters Forever by Carlene Westberg. Great pattern–you can get your fabric all cut out and all the blocks made in an afternoon. The pattern calls for charm squares and has three different versions. I might be making this for a baby that is due in July.
There is a purple colorway in this collection also, but I felt that it was best kept apart from the orange, aqua and green. If anyone I know has a baby girl, I will make a few more blocks and have another quilt! We are supposed to find out on March 8th is our particular baby is a boy or a girl, so I just want to be prepared.
I had a fat eighth bundle of this line, which was just about right for the quilt. If I do end up making a purple version, I think all I would need to do is pick up a couple of charm packs and I would have plenty of aquas and purples for more blocks. The white fabric is my Go To White, Kona Snow. I have an entire bolt of it, because I use it so much.
If anyone read my post yesterday which mentions the Frixion pen by Pilot, please read my update. This pen is terrific for marking embroidery patterns, but beware of using it to mark quilting designs on your quilt. The ink is supposed to disappear when you iron it, but Pamkittymorning has been experimenting with it in her Kitty Kat Lab and found that cold temperatures bring the ink back. Yikes!

I like that collection even better without the purple. But the purple fabrics are so pretty when used alone. You’re really good at designing with color.

Oh is that pattern ever pretty. I love the simplicity of the pattern, but it sure does create a striking design! I love both color ways! Very pretty!

How exciting to soon learn which flavor baby will be yours to love forever!
Both quilts are delicious and so joyful! I see the pattern is simple, too. Do you cut your fabrics into the exact lengths you need or strip piece?
Good heads-up on the Pilot pen. That could be a disaster.

What a cute quilt. I am always so leary of marking my quilts. I’ve heard too many horror stories.

Thanks for the quick update on the Pilot pen. I had already thought about trying it on a quilt…..

OOOOOO I love the purple colors and I would love to make over my bedroom with those but I think my DH would prefer camo instead!
Thanks for the heads up on the pen.

I love them both, but I REALLY LIKE the green colorway!

That pattern is perfect for that fabric, Nicole. I might have to play with my fat quarter bundle soon.

The purple looks pink to me. I love it.

Nicole, What a fun pattern! I love both colorways but purple is my favorite color and your purple version took my breath away. Gorgeous fabric. The shades and hues of the purples in that collection are amazing! Thanks SO much for the heads up on the Frixion pen. I was going to try to get to my LQS and get one today. I guess I will just stick to water solubles I have been using. I always gently wash my finished stitchery and the blue lines completely disappear in the water and leave a beautiful clean stitchery design. You don’t have to soak a stitchery to get the tracing lines off though…gently dabbing with a damp cloth, or just lightly spritzing with a spray bottle also removes the lines. Sometimes I just use a #2 pencil and that also comes out when I clean the stitchery. Hugs…

I marked a baby quilt with pink chalk from Clover. It is supposed to wash out. Guess what didn’t wash out completely?
I ALWAYS wash my marked quilts in cold water with no detergent. This was the first time using Clover’s chalk and it was the first time the markings did not come completely out. 🙁 Big sigh.

Glad to share my info from the lab! I was bummed out with the results simply because it’s an awesome pen that draws so well. I think one of my most frustrating roadblocks with machine quilting revolves around marking. There’s just no really good solution. I really need those marks to show.
Anyway, as usual you managed to inspire us all on a nearly daily basis!

BEAUTIFUL! I like them both, and Central Park fabric is so pretty. Love the pattern too, might have to break down and buy it.

Love the purple colourway, Nicole. Thank you for the inspiration. I have an ‘I Spy Quilt’ to make for my Grandson’s 2nd Birthday in April so have been pondering over the block book I have as I am not interested in just sewing squares together, this is ideal and hopefully hassel free.
Thank you for the advice with flying geese. I was thinking it might be my Janome that you can’t put a table around and that it might be pulling the dias off, but it ended up the special quarter inch foot is not sewing a quarter inch for some reason. I did have it serviced recently so maybe the needle position is not set properly but then it is a computer machine. Had thought to set up my Bernina but ended up using my treadle with a quarter inch foot and wow they are turning out perfect. Didn’t start the log cabins as planned, just had to conquer these!
What fabrics have you set aside for Double Duty?
I am using Kansas Troubles and loving them.
Not long to wait now, and you will be thinking all sorts of projects for the little one!

Ah! I had seen that post on PKM where the cold brought the ink back. Good to know.

Haven’t seen this fabric in person yet, but your quilts are wonderful. I like keeping the colors separate. Great job.

Central Park is very pretty fabric, I just love how you separated the colors, it looks like two different lines. I’ve yet to see it in person.
Tuesday’s the big day huh, I can hardly wait to find out if Sara’s having a boy or a girl, you must be dying with anticipation!
